Unfortunately (since we've had a pretty good experience at Lux before) we had a terrible experience at Lux this weekend. The service was really below standard. We had to wait ten minutes before they noticed us at the table and it wasn't like they passed by us many times. We got a bottle of wine, got a glass and then had to ask for a refill. They then asked what wine we would like (they forgot we already had a bottle in their fridge). For the rest of the evening the service was really nothing like you'd expect. We felt the waiters were stoned or something. They put the food down as if dumping a package on the table, they mumbled when telling us what the food was and generally were behaving odd and inexperienced. There was no feeling of them being welcoming hosts.
As for the food. We had the 7-course menu which consisted of mini bites that were served over the course of three full hours. Bite 4 was a square piece of fish the size of a cookie. It tasted good. Then after half an hour dish number five. An equally impressive cookie-sized piece of fish that was gone in two bites. With nothing else on the side. We were starving in the end when they finally brought us the "main dish" which tasted okay but by then we were so wasted from only having wine and nothing solid that it just didn't fall well on our stomach anymore. We topped it off with literally one slice of cheese as the final dish.
The whole evening I looked around and most of the time people were sitting at tables with no food on it. I have no idea why everyone was kept waiting forever.
I'd like to add that the restaurant stank of sewage at the moment we came in and it stayed like that for the full three hours. Maybe a broken pipe, it happens, but it did not help either.
The one bottle of wine we had was very good, which can be expected as it was priced accordingly.
We paid 140 euros for two people, left without having the additional desert and went home semi-drunk and feeling still hungry and miserable.
We'll never go to Lux again. We lost a great place to eat in Rotterdam. Hope it was just bad luck (temporary waiters, sewage problems, understaffed kitchen?), but we don't want to try our luck...
Read moreA restaurant where you feel at home. One of our favorite restaurants, with a very nice, cozy and warm location that makes you feel like you are dining in your own dining room. The menu changes every week (but one dish, the carbonara di tonno - try it!), so you can always try something new. A 7 course menu is available as well. Good selection of wines, and possibility to do wine pairing. Service is very attentive. Prices are not high at all for the quality you get. Very, very...
Read moreI don't write too many reviews, can't be bothered. But Milan and his team deserve it. Been coming here regularly for a few years now and it's always great. This restaurant has a stylish and spacious interior: 'classy' enough for a special night, but without frills or pretentiousness. Every single time we are treated to delicious 'simple', perfectly created dishes. The wine suggestions are always amazing too. Warmly...
