Went to try the Japanese pancakes for the first time and was pleasantly surprised how delicious they were. However, that was where the good experience ended. We were sat at a very small café table for two--my friend and I aren't big men compared to much taller and wider Dutch men--but we felt cramped and when we asked to move we were told all the other tables were reserved. There was also nowhere to hang our jackets, which was decidedly inconvenient. With no other indication (table tent, verbal information, etc.), we sat at the table for nearly 20 minutes without realizing we had to scan a QR code to place our order which, despite having a large staff, we also found unwelcoming. The pancakes were definitely the culinary highlight, but very overpriced (9,80 for the basic butter and syrup) for only two pancakes (three would have been a better value and certainly more filling). Very offensive was the 80 cent surcharge for the oat milk we ordered in our Thai Lattes, which were served lukewarm. Not being filled up with the pancakes we ordered a second round of Lattes and the vegetarian Egg Toast, which was also overpriced at 11,30 and unremarkable, to say the least. Finally, at one point, we were asked to pay and leave as they needed our table for an incoming reservation which, was both offensive and appalling (first time in the 15 years I've lived in the Netherlands that I've ever been asked to leave a restaurant...where I just spent 60 euros for breakfast! PRO TIP: Go for the pancakes--which you'll polish off in minutes--then head across the street where you'll find Starbucks and Coffee Company or the nearby Food Hall where you can get a decent beverage and a bit more to fill you up for more...
Read moreThis place have some good and bad sides about it. Food is great, their pancakes are fluffy and light, delicate, not too sweet yet flavourful. Fresh berries, macaron on top of my pancake was excuisit. And at this cafe I had one of the best cappuchinos in my life. However the first impression of this place was not so great. When we came inside the first thing I experienced was the smell. Some weird mixture of mold and dust, wet soil and plaster, or I don't know.. It was definately not the smell you expect to find at a pancake cafe. Interior design is a bit dated to me, plastic flowers in vases and on the walls even add to dusty smell of the place. And regarding dust: lamps over the head are covered in dust so when you accidentally touch them - dust will fall to the table and cover your precious pancakes like a powder you don't want. Clean up, guys! And also, those orchids on the windowsill.. seems like they are the olny live flowers there, and they do not add to the interior. Because when orchid is not blossoming it's just a stem and a couple of leaves. And it requires some support too, so most of the time your orchids are just empty flowerpots with supporting sticks sticking out of it. It's not green, not pretty and not appropriate. If you like orchids - grow them at home) massive evergreen plants is a way better option for a cafe, they are able to bring life and colour to your place. Not the orchids. And for god's sakes - use some aroma candle or air freshener. Place where you serve food is not supposed to smell like mold and plaster. So.. to sum up: details MATTER. I enjoyed the food, it was 10/10. But not sure if I will come back, because the whole experience...
Read moreAbsolutely a must-try!!! I had heard many recommendations about this place and when I finally got the chance to visit it, I was not the slightest bit disappointed! First off, the place is so sweet - the interior is beautiful and creates a pretty and Japanese atmosphere. Moreover, you are warmly welcomed by the friendliest staff, always ready to listen and help. Secondly, the pancakes are beyond incredible! They prepare the mixture and bake them right on the spot, just like the original Japanese soufflé pancakes! The presentation deserves more than a 1000 points, because every kind has a unique arrangement tht has you already mouthwatering at the sight of it. And the taste… the texture brings its soft, sweet, creamy and juicy flavour out; it’s honestly pure heaven not only for the mouth, but for the soul too. We ordered the tiramisu pancakes and the mango ones, and both of the portions felt light and refreshing. Furthermore, we also got a cappuccino and a taro latte on the side, which were appetizing as well; they didn’t even need sugar to be added as the taste was delicious on its own! Of course, we cannot miss the cute ‘latte art’ that they were served with; fabulous! In conclusion, I recommend this Soufflé Café for anyone who loves pancakes, Japanese themed food, sweetness or a combination of all three! ^^ Side note: we will definitely be coming back to experience the delight once again! Many congratulations to the chef(s) and many thanks to the...
