Went on a solo trip to Texel. Managed to get a table to be a guest of Bij Jef. I had hugh expectations before I went and was not disappointed at all.||First of all I arrived early as I can't drive and the public transportation of Texel is not as tightly scheduled as in Hong Kong. They offered me with a very cosy table in a sort of like drawing room to have an apéritif. At the same time, canapé and amuse bouche are both served there. The room had a very modern interior design with paintings of different textures and concepts. Everything works like chains and locks that lifts your dining spirit and appetite up.||I was welcomed warmly by one of the hostess, Roosmarijn. Her smile made me feel less awkward as I dined on my own. Later on, the owner and chef, Jef came to me explaining the menu, asked for any allergy. Luckily there is not much I don't eat so naturally I took the 7 course menu.||After a short while, Jef's wife, who is also the sommelier, Nadine approached me and recommended some bottles or the wine pairing to go with my meal. Her expertise and professionalism helped me a lot in choosing an excellent bottle of white to pair the menu with.||The dinner went on perfectly in a timely manner. Not too hasty and not too slow. Each dish was well presented by Roosmarijn and Stephanie. Even the items on the dish I had never heard about was explained with patience and humour. The dishes were very innovative with touches of surprises. For example the sea water consommé with clams, local baby lamb with baby turnip and fava bean is to die for. After the main course, cheese trolly was pushed over by Stephanie (highlight- local cheese) and was extended to me in the most fashionable manner. Every single cheese was explained and of course I've asked for a small plate of recommendations. A perfect plate was cut and served which comes with bread of figs and nuts, along side with special home made jams (highlighting again- not store bought, but home made) was the most perfect match that enlightenes the flavors of the cheese! Of course a dinner must finish with dessert. Local strawberry (I was lucky enough to be there for the perfect season of it) with white chocolate and vanilla ice cream was the most wonderful period for the dinner. Just as I thought there was nothing more to eat, whilst departure back to Den Berg, I was given a lollipop covered with popping candy as something sweet on the road! That was the sweetest touch I had from my experience of dining out! Perfect, simply perfect.||I would like to thank Roosmarijn, Stephanie and Nadine who took excellent care of me during dinner, and assistance in arranging taxi afterwards. Thank you Jef who showed me around your kitchen where you work your magic. And the rest of the team who created a dining adventure. I would definitely come back for my next visit to Texel. Highly recommended to treat you and your...

Read moreLast summer I had the pleasure to enjoy a diner at Bij Jef together with my partner. We started the evening on the comfy patio with amazing little amuse-bouches and a very warm welcome. We then moved to a table inside, the atmosphere was great, modern and open yet warm and private. The room features a semi open kitchen showing a glimpse into the wel oiled machine working to deliver amazing quality food. A very knowledgable but not arrogant sommelier explained all the different wines that accompanied our courses. And the courses, o my, wonder after wonder arrived on the table, flavour explosions and theatrical art on a plate combined. The tempi of the evening were thought out to perfection, some courses were served quickly after each-other, others gave you time to relax and reflect, only to have your attention brought back with something that surprised and delighted us. Every course was accompanied by small freshly baked different pieces of bread, some salty, some sweet, all perfect. The maître d' was amazing and service impeccable, not snobbish and distant but warm and inviting. I've had the best restaurant experience of my life here. And I will come back to Texel, just to eat at Bij Jef...
