Was once a regular at this place, but being a regular apparently doesn't guarantee good service. Unless you're white, geriatric, or live at the psychiatric apartments nearby, walk further down to the Keizerstraat to find better food and service. De Maatschappij, for instance, deserves every penny they ask for. The only redeeming value this place has is its proximity to the tram. I know one bad review will hardly make any difference, but I need to put it out there. They had it coming. I love good restaurants, I exhalt great service, but if this is how they treat regular customers, I'm not one to stay silent. Truth be told, I will come for mediocre food if I'm guaranteed good service. Once upon a time, good service was the only thing this restaurant had, now, even that is gone. I went back because colleagues invited me, but all I got after my bad experience was a handshake from the owner. I wish I could get over it and give them business at dull hours, which is what I used to do, but every day, I walk by thinking, "Should I?" I do miss the place, but it has left a bad aftertaste that won't go away. So, I'm taking my fat expat wallet to a different restaurant, one where the chef has a passion for food, where you're not subject to discrimination, and where you don't have to contend with the stench of adult diapers--which I was willing to ignore, not any more. I had an incredibly disappointing experience at this restaurant. My wife and I went in just for a cappuccino, and the waitress responded with a condescending attitude, surprised that was all we wanted. When I ordered a second cappuccino, it tasted strange—like reused coffee. We brought it up with the staff, but they showed no interest in addressing the complaint and still charged us. It's time to call a spade a spade. The racist blond waitress continually called on a friend of mine to quiet down. By all means, he was not being loud. The white people at the next table were so loud my ears were ringing. We were merely trying to hear one another. Three times she reprimanded him for being loud because he was Pilipino. Not once did she ask the whites to reduce their volume. Plan to be discriminated if you aren't white. The manager is no better. It's time to boycott...
