Smit Vis aan de Haven — Restaurant in Tilburg

Fantastic!! Must try to believe! A friend and I had 2 lunches here while in town for the Awakenings festival last weekend. WOW! Absolute 3 star Michelin quality food, presentation and service with a casual, relaxed vibe and great outdoor seating. Our first lunch was 2 daily lunch specials (Euro 34 and a steal!) with beautiful appetizer of butterfish carpaccio and main course of sole. We also had 2 additional appetizers of tuna tartar taco (Euro17) and Yellowfin ceviche (Euro 17) . All beautifully presented and fresh. The service was friendly, welcoming and fast. The second lunch we ordered the same lunch special.Moments later the waitress came back and said 'the chefs noticed your were here yesterday and wondered if you would like something different'. What?! Fantastic pro-active offer and noticing us and caring. We asked for a different appetizer and they on the spot came up with a magnificent dish that looked like it came out of a gourmet food magazine (Tuna and beetroot carpaccio with micro veges and an interesting sauce). Great wine selection by the glass and nice desserts. We met the chefs after and thanked them. Young, talented and deserving of recognition and success, This is worth a commute even if you are not in Tilburg but in the region (or changing trains at s'-Hertogenbosch, which is hard to avoid if you are returning to Amsterdam!). We just entered on Sunday evening having no reservation in this crowded-full restaurant, hoping to have luck... and we did, thanks to the very friendly stuff, polite and happy to assist. We started with the fabulous white wine and some apetizers in the side-location which we made fun (waving back to people in the street) and in the end for the main course we had our table. The food was A LOT, great taste, fresh and we felt excellent - just like among friends! Morgen zondag kan je de Pius Haven ook bezoeken.

Het was zwaar. Het regende af en aan. Kwam uit de hemel. Maar het drukte de pret niet. Nederlanders, nee de Tilburgers zijn goed voorbereid, kunnen tegen een beetje regen en zijn volk die sterke affiniteit hebben met de schepen en water. Business.

Mijn reisgenoot en ik hebben bij een zwarte horeca etablissement niet gebruik kunnen maken want ze waren vol en gereserveerd. Dus gingen we een stuk verder lopen.

Smit Vis aan de haven Leek aan aan de buitenkant heel gewoontjes. Links de winkel, rechts kan je eten. Maar als je dichterbij kwam dan kon je aan het schoolbord zien dat het een viswinkel is. Eenmaal binnen goed ontvangen, hartelijk zelfs. Er was plek voor ons. De inrichting is totaal wit. Maar de professionaliteit droop er van af. We werden naar ons tafel geleid. Bij het brengen van ons frisdrank werd zelfs geserveerd. Bij alle plekken waar we geweest zijn tot nu toe, werkelijk niet dus. Her eten is super lekker. Ik nam de jonge vissers : kibbeling en friet. Dat is de kinderversie. Ik ben diabetes, ik kan niet veel friet eten. Mijn tafelgenoot nam de Fish and Chips. Je raadt het al de volwassen menu versie. We namen ook de brood met kruidenboter, boter en olijfolie. Ik was vergeten een foto van dit laatstgenoemde te maken. € 42, en nog wat was het totaal. Het is het waard.

Ze keken niet op ons neer toen we als verzopen kat binnenkwamen. Iedereen was droog en typische clientèle. Maar die hebben ons niet zwaar met tegenkeuring naar ons gekeken. We waren allemaal schepen, water en vis "connoiseurs" of geïnteresseerden. Mijn reisgenoot heeft een diepe geschiedenis met schepen. Hij sleurt me overal naar toe.
