This place is really a gem. We stumbled across it while looking for a restaurant with a more experimental approach and flavor combinations. Well, that's exactly what we found by Oli Mazi and I must say, it was the highlight of my week. We ordered the What the Duck, the Garide saganaki, the seafood "Giouvetsi" and the truffle risotto. We were greeted with a welcome shot of ouzo and pomegranate. We also ordered the Mylonas Assyrtiko wine which was the fantastic choice for dry sour wine lovers such as myself. It also paired perfectly with the dishes we ordered. Starting with What the Duck, I must say I have never had such perfectly cooked duck. You could cut it with a butter knife and yet it had a beautiful and delicious crispy layer of fat to top it off. That aside, the combination of the flavors of that dish was mindblowing; the sweet/sour of the plum with the saltiness of the duck and the buttery pumpkin puree kept me longing for more. The Garide saganaki was another serenading dance on my palate, the prawns tasted so fresh and were incredibly juicy. Combining them with the tomato, chilli and feta really brought out the flavors of the prawns. We also could'nt get enough of the remaining sauce, so we had some bread to scoop it up! If you're a risotto fan, you know that not everyone can make a well-cooked buttery risotto. The chefs at Oli Mazi are definitely experts in the risotto area. The risotto had the perfect melt in your mouth yet slightly chewy texture. The flavors of the truffle with the mushrooms, Mon Chou and Kefalotyri were perfectly balanced and made the dish deliciously creamy yet light. That all and I have yet to mention the service, the people at Oli Mazi are incredibly dedicated to their guests and the food they serve and that was very evident during our dining experience. We felt very welcomed and cared for, it gave us a taste of greek hospitality in a quiet street in Utrecht. We will definitely be back and are very curious about the next...
Read moreI would like to start by stating that this is not your typical Greek restaurant. From the moment you're seated, if it's your first visit, they make a point to explain the concept to you. The concept in question is presented under the name of "shared dinner," where each person is encouraged to choose three dishes, and it’s shared that the restaurant chef will prepare and serve these dishes in the order and timing of their choosing.
As frequent visitors to Greek and Turkish restaurants, and having traveled to Greece numerous times, we initially thought this service style was inspired by the meze culture. In traditional Greek cuisine, mezes are typically served in large portions and are meant to be shared among the table. However, we quickly realized that this was not the case here.
The meze portions we received were very small, and the flavors fell far short of the gastronomic experience the restaurant's concept seemed to promise. The idea of serving the dishes according to the chef's discretion appeared to be more a result of the restaurant's busy pace rather than a deliberate culinary choice, which became evident when our orders took nearly an hour to be served.
We continued our meal, hoping that the familiar seafood dishes like calamari and shrimp, presented in new ways, would offer flavors we hadn’t experienced before. Unfortunately, we were disappointed in this regard as well. While we respect the service, the concept, and the effort involved, when we evaluate the experience in terms of value for money, portion sizes, service, and taste, we believe that you could leave much more satisfied from a traditional...
Read moreThe review is mainly for the poor policy of the restaurant and his arrogant manager George. I made booking to celebrate my birthdays and i asked if i can bring a birthday cake to blow the candles. However the store Manager even did not reply to me as he promised and few hrs prior the booking i was told that this is not allowed because it is a luxurius restaurant! My advice to the restaurant is to take it easy and get grounded because we customers make them famous and personally many times i visited them and spread a good word at my network. Sad though and i will of course not anymore support you. Festive moments Cannot be treated only with desserts and whole cakes you...
