Not for diners who appreciate civilized restaurant behavior
One star is actually too much. The sparkling wine came uncorked to the table. That surprised me and I asked how this was possible? The waitress smiled shyly; she went to get boss. The boss came, he heard we had a question. I asked if the waitress had said anything. He said, somewhat annoyed, "Yes, but I want to hear from you." I said that I thought it is strange that the bottle of sparkling wine was already uncorked when it was brought to the table. Then, as if stung by a wasp, he was ignited in irascible anger: we always do that here, then you should have said in advance that you wanted an unopened bottle, nobody here has a catering training, you apparently do not belong to our target group, the old-fashioned term 'customer is king' does not apply here, we are not going to please you. I was stunned by so much overwhelming verbal aggression. I looked at my wife, 'shall we leave?', she nodded. We got up. The boss said boldly that we had to pay for the bottle of wine. I didn't want that and we walked away without paying. I hope to contribute to the 'success formula' of Mr. Boss by disclosing this negative unpleasant Mossels & Meer experience. Eaters who appreciate civilized restaurant manners should stay away, those who like to be insulted, go...
Read moreI honestly never post negative reviews! If I don't like restaurants I usually just never come back simple as that.. but we were so unsatisfied that I felt the urge to write a little something:
Food: i came to the MOSSEL restaurant to eat (crazy as it is) MUSSELS. Now guess what they did not have at 7pm on a Thursday night. Correct the one thing they claim to have the best of in all Oostkapelle. We then ordered fish which was all right (that's the one star I am giving) the sauce did not taste selfmade. They serve fries and salad with the main course.
Service: Now we get to the interesting part. Our waitresses were the worst I have ever seen (having worked in that field myself for years) tables where full with old plates (even though they passed the tables multiple times empty handed). It took us 30 min to order anything. The waitress only mentioned that there were no mussels when we ordered (not when she gave us the menu cards) of course we already had drinks so we didn't just leave. We witnessed long waiting times at other tables as well and misplaced orders. All in all the waitress seemed annoyed and uptight.
I am really sorry but that was the first and only time...
Read moreWe visited Oostkapelle over de weekend and wanted to enjoy the Zeeuwse mussels we'd heard so much about. We were looking for a take-away due to circumstances and Mossels en Meer came through and then some. We called ahead and found out that they were fully booked. Take-away was possible after 8 which was perfectly fine. We ordered 3 portions which came with fries and side salad. It fed 4 easily. Not only that, but we didn't receive it as disposable containers but a care package with all the food in their respective pan/ bowl and restaurant cutlery as well. We just needed to drop off the rinsed crockery the next day. Which says a lot about the friendly, courteous and trusting people in Zeeland. Mossels en Meer really was the icing on the cake for our visit to Oostkapelle. A...
