The Harbour — Restaurant in Velsen

Really wish I could give a better rating, but the dishonest salesperson really ruined our experience.

She charged a euro extra for my coffee, so I asked for some clarification.

She said it was because it was a medium. Okay, well I didn't order that. She said she gave me a larger size than what I had asked for because we were four people together so she thought we were going to share.

I'm sorry, what?? 😂😂 Who shares a coffee? Literally. Who has ever gone out for a coffee with their friend and been like, sharesies?

The best part (I guess) was that she included our toddlers in that tally. It was my husband, myself, and our two toddlers. So she gives me a larger coffee than I asked for because she thought I was going to share it with... toddlers. Right.

To add to that, the medium is fifty cents extra, but she charged a euro extra. When I pointed that out, she said, ja, maar dan komt de melk erbij...

Haha what?? Such bizarre answers. I don't think she's used to people questioning the extra charges.

Here's the bottom line. The price was a bit on the high side, but that's not the problem. It was the way she went about it and the obvious scamming that ruined it. Dishonesty and scamming has no place in society....

Nog nooit ben ik zo ongastvrij behandeld in een horecazaak. We kwamen met een groep binnen en niemand, maar dan ook niemand van het personeel (5 dames sterk) kon ons begroeten. Of de tafeltjes aan elkaar helpen schuiven zodat we wat gezelliger konden zitten. De koffie was zeer slap (gewoon doorzichtig), bediening kwam chagrijnig vragen wat we wilden drinken. Eten werd niet eens aangeboden en ook geen kaart aangeboden. Een van ons vroeg om een biertje, wat niet werd aangeboden, kan gebeuren. ("hebben we niet") Fanta was er ook niet, ("ook niet") waarna heel chagrijnig (bijna boos) opgenoemd werd wat er wel was. 2 dames met jas aan kwamen met de hand aan de rand van de glazen (koffie in waterglaasjes, geen schoteltje, geen koekje, niets) en zonder dienblad gebracht, neergekwakt op tafel. Niet eens netjes voor de persoon die het kreeg. Er werd heel chagrijnig "alsjeblieft" gezegd en ze liepen daarna meteen door naar buiten om te gaan roken. Het leek bijna alsof we ze lastig vielen met onze klandizie. Toen we vertrokken werden we niet gedag gezegd of bedankt. Personeel liep rond met heel lange haren zonder het vast te hebben in een staart, o.i.d. Sportkleding en leggings die gewoon doorzichtig waren. Niet professioneel in mijn ogen. Echt een schande voor...

I can't comment on the food, as I only had two coffees. Quaint coffee and nibbles restaurant in Ijmuiden, which all of the people visiting the Netherlands from the UK miss, as they all get the coach to Amsterdam. The coffee was delicious, and I could understand the menu (not a Dutch speaker). I would say it's a good place for the locals to meet and...
