Went here after several recommendations from local people to eat some pancakes. The location is very nice, just off the beach and the food isn't bad either. It didn't meet the expectations set by the locals, but it was good and tasty. The decor is excellent and there is a nice idea for children to pick a gift when they order a certain menu item. That said, the service was absolutely horrible. First we were completely neglected while all other tables around us were served. After asking for a menu, we got exactly one, though we were 4 people. We ordered 4 pancakes and a fanta for a price of 30 euros - which is not cheap considering what we ordered. When asking the waitress for some tap water to bring along with the meals, she was hesitant, but agreed to do so. After a couple of minutes however, she came back saying she won't deliver any "free" water to us and we would have to order mineral water only. Now that's just rude especially considering that they did serve tap water to customers that ordered a coffee instead of a fanta. Unless you absolutely have to, don't go there. The poor customer service is not worth it. There are better restaurants...
Read moreWe had a great experience at De Zeerover during a weekday afternoon visit. We were seated inside right away with no wait, though there are plenty of outdoor tables available on a first-come, first-served basis. The restaurant overlooks the beach and offers a nice view and a relaxed atmosphere.
We started with the broodplank (freshly baked bread) that was absolutely delicious. The fish & chips were excellent and reminded us of the style you'd find in the UK. We also tried the apple & cinnamon pancake, which was good while not being as sweet as American-style pancakes. A carafe of white wine rounded out the meal and was a great pairing with the food.
Service was friendly and attentive. Prices were very reasonable, especially given the quality and location. The restaurant had a mix of guests, including several families, and seemed popular with all ages.
All around, this was a relaxing and tasty stop. I definitely...
There were two of us there, each having a dish. The salad with chicken, bacon, and honey mustard sauce (open the menu, bottom right:)) was truly excellent, a definite recommendation. The salad also included sprouts, very juicy tomatoes, radishes, cucumber, and bell peppers. The whole thing forms a tower, but it's very manageable, especially if you're really hungry.
It came with two dark breads, soft with a good edible crust and butter, which were also excellent. The onion soup was spicy, also very good, although there was only a small piece of cheese crust floating around in it, which wasn't too bad. This was also served with the aforementioned thick slices of bread.
The menu is available in Dutch and English, but you can also get a German translation using the QR code on the same menu. The paper inserts are wonderful for coloring on the front and back, and colored pencils and sharpeners are available at the table.
Outside, all the shady spots were full, so we were a bit hesitant to go in, but it's well-air-conditioned and extremely pleasant. After our drinks (sparkling ice tea and Coke Zero, both wonderful), we had to wait at least 15 minutes. It was a bit annoying, but the wait was...
