After a few Friday wines a burger always seems like a good idea. The Favourite Husband and I ventured in to Burger Burger for the first time with relatively low expectations. It wasn’t particularly full and yet the staff did that deeply irritating thing when they both pretend they’re really busy and so leave you standing at the doorway like a double glazing salesperson. I’m a fan of ordering using the QR code so that was a thumbs up from me. Then the experience became a bit surreal for me. The first thing to come out were the kumara fries; deliciously hot and crispy, well seasoned and a joy. But they came out alone. Some 5-10 minutes later the burgers followed. It didn’t make sense. It was like the kumara fries were the entree and the burgers were the main. I had the Beef and Cheese and it was delicious. The meat was medium and still had some pink in the middle and both the burger and the bun had a nice char. The Favourite Husband had a Kiwi Classic and proclaimed it to be “a decent burger.” High praise indeed from this burger connoisseur. So if the fries were the entree and the burgers the main this would mean that the tortilla chips and guacamole that came out after we’d finished our burgers were dessert. As I said, it made no sense. This sits with staff. All staff. Kitchen and floor. Communicate and think. Despite being tasty and enjoyable enough $80 (including one cider) seems steep for burgers. That said there’s enough on the menu to warrant a second visit. Although maybe I’ll advise what order the food needs to come out...
Read moreA bit too pricey for the size of the burgers (sides are sold separately). Using the app to order is OK, though we are pretty tech savvy usually, yet somehow ticked to add fish to our chicken burger while scrolling down the menu (this added to our disappointment, but was our own fault, not the kitchens). Atmosphere is nice, especially the outdoor area on a sunny day. When we arrived two staff were waiting at the counter, when I approached they continued chatting to each other until I interrupted to ask for a menu and advice on where to sit and how to order. The menu has lots of options and the food is good. Though things are served oddly and I feel things are overpriced. First thing to come out were the curly fries (cooked to perfection and served with a delicious aoli (wish there was more sauce) - But they came out alone. Some 5-10 minutes later the burgers followed. It's odd (as though they were an entre). We had the ol smokey and the mcfly (both very tasty). Also had an OJ and the hubby got a BB shake (sickly sweet sadly, he took two gulps and couldnt drink any more - I thought he was being perdantoc so tried it too. I hate seeing food go to waste. But I couldn't bear more than two sips either). Despite being tasty and enjoyable enough $80 seems steep for 2 burgers, 2 drinks and a...
Read moreThere was once a time I would have paid a lot of money to get my hands on some BB chicken. We went to burger burger for every milestone celebration, date nights, birthdays, etc. It USED to be amazing. Now I don't plan to ever order from there again. I noticed a change in taste, presentation and quality when I visited last june. I looked over into the kitchen and noticed a change in chefs. So I wondered if there had been new ownership. I have since tried BB 3 more times and every time I leave more disappointed than the time before. Staff service is hit and miss. Sometimes exceptional sometimes just appauling. But the food is consistently getting worse. I'm firstly annoyed that there was no BB chicken but thought I'd give the popcorn chicken a chance, and just YUCK. Why does the popcorn chicken taste like curry powder? And no spice to it at all like it used to. My curly fries were pretty mushy and the "green aioli" and normal aioli both had zero taste to this. Apart from the texture, I'd never know I was eating sauce with my meal. All round confirmed my...
