Black & White Coffee Cartel — Restaurant in Christchurch

Being my local café, I’ve visited Black & White a few times over the past year. The food is undeniably delicious and offers a good variety, which is what brings me back occasionally, maybe once every few months. However, what stops me from becoming a regular customer is the overall cleanliness and staff attitude. The water glasses and bottles are often so dirty that I hesitate to even touch them. On more than one occasion, I’ve had to wipe them down with napkins myself before using them. For a busy café, basic hygiene shouldn’t be overlooked. As for the service, yes, the place is busy, and I understand that staff can be under pressure. But that doesn’t justify being rude or dismissive. There have been times when I’ve asked a simple question, only to be met with eye-rolls, a cold stare, or just a finger pointing in some vague direction. As a customer, it’s disappointing to be treated like an inconvenience. In short: great food, but the poor service and lack of cleanliness really take away from the overall experience. Normally go here with my dad and grandma for Sunday afternoon coffee and food, got our usual 2 coffees and an iced drink, that came out within 5 minutes. My 88 year old grandma ordered a toastie from the cabinet and I ordered scrambled eggs both took an hour and 10 minutes to arrive at our table and when I got my scrambled eggs I was given melted butter and a small portion which was Luke warm at best. People who came in after us got their food and drinks before us and left before us. We asked a couple of times and on the 3rd when my dad asked he got attitude from the girl making coffee with reddish hair and a tattoo on right ankle. I went there with my friend about 10:30am today (Wednesday) already a lot of people in there. Fortunately we can get a comfortable table in the corner and order foods and coffee. Staffs all kind and nice. Specially the food was amazing 👏 . We really enjoyed our meal. Beautiful! Too full to finish the dessert. The chocolate brownie was not too sweet and delightful. I also purchased the coffee beans for my friend, because they said professional person comes to roast the beans every Monday and Wednesdays. And branded with Brazil & Colombia coffee beans.
