Lume Restaurant — Restaurant in Christchurch

Food was delicious, my husbands fillet steak cooked to perfection & presented beautifully ($52), view of the waterfront, lovely, waitress, well below par for a fine dining restaurant. My husbands beer was presented at least 1½ - 2" below the rim & when I questioned this the waitress told me this was "usual". I ordered a main of prawn fetticine & when it arrived I commented to the waitress that I couldn't see any pasta at all but was ignored. My husband said maybe I misread the menu & it was actually Prawns in a fetticine sauce albeit a very small main course. Not wanting to spoil the evening I didn't push it. The waitress never introduced herself, never told us the soup of the day or fish of the day until I asked & she never came to our table to check how our meals were at all. Had she done this I would have queried my meal. When I was directed to the bartender to pay my bill I presented a voucher as I had been kindly gifted this meal by a friend but I was told that as the voucher was for $100 & our bill was only $92 we would have to forfeit the remainder. This was when I realised I had been given an entree of garlic prawns not the main meal of prawn fetticine. No wonder my "main" was so small. In compensation the bar tender gave me a "free" beer for my husband who had already had a delicious & filling main meal. I'd hardly say the beer was "free" but at least it finished off my $100 voucher. I'll never return. Although the food was very tasty & beautifully cooked we'll never return because of the wobbly table with a dirty tissue stuffed under it, the dirty water jug with chlorinated tap water in it & the sub-par waitress who totally ignored us & ordered myself an entree when my husband ordered a main, were definately not what I'd consider "Fine Dining". Well, what a disappointment! We specifically chose this restaurant as we were under the assumption that being a Peppers Resort it held a certain standard, clearly not the case. We were taken to our table by a completely inexperienced waitress. We ordered a bottle of wine and it was evident that glasses weren't clean as they had black bits in all 3 glasses, advised the waitress, she really wasn't sure what to do. The glasses were taken away and 10 minutes later our wine was returned in 3 clean glasses. 1 of them was a completely different wine??? We expressed our dismay and were told they were the same wine just in different glasses. We asked for the manager and the situation was remedied by a fresh bottle and clean glasses. Crackers served with the Venison were very stale, the Lamb was terribly tough. The Pork, muscles and Venison were all okay. The steamed vegetables were steamed! No seasoning, nothing, so bland. UTTER MANAGEMENT STUPIDITY. We loved the wait staff who were personable and professional. However we had a fail rate of 8 out of 8 people because of the menu. On the advertised menu was duck pancakes and whitebait. However after getting drinks the wait staff told us that these two entrees are NOT available. When pressed we found out that these meals have not been available for several months. All 8 of us wanted these two entrees and we were "very disappointed", "upset" and "unimpressed".
