Tex Mex hornby — Restaurant in Christchurch

This newly opened restaurant is a gem to discover! Just walked by and a customer came out telling us to try it because it was good and so we did. We ordered the Birria tacos which came with 3 pieces and Consome. The flavor was delicious and well balanced and we enjoyed it so much we came a second time to try something else on their menu. My husband got the boneless buffalo chicken burrito and I got the beef brisket rice bowl. Once again we were satisfied. The owners/chef are very nice and the ambiance is simply chill and relaxed. We were surprised it wasnt so busy for how good the food was, but it's because they just opened. I rarely write reviews, but I feel like more people need to know about this place! Having tried tons of Mexican restaurants in various places in and out of NZ, this is definitely one of the good ones. We were excited to try this place, and the reviews looked great! We had a busy work week and hungry kids so decided to order takeaway online for pick up. We ordered almost $100 of food and paid via their online ordering system ahead pickup. On pickup, my husband was told they did not have our order, he showed the order confirmation and receipt and was met with defense and refusal to fulfill the order. The staff member had to call a manager in order to proceed with the order which was eventually 'fulfilled'. My husband arrived home, to find his own meal was not included. When I called to query this, the staff member was aware an apologetic, but refused a refund. Eventually we agreed they would deliver the missing meal to our address....one hour later, we found a cold meal on our neighbour's door step. I had to call to find out were they had delivered this.

Overall, the food was 'fine', my kods actually rated it. But given the service, and attitude of staff (very rude) I would 💯...

For the first time in my entire life I have experienced racism lol. I walked in to order and the guy stares at me and asks me to wait. I replied saying ‘that’s all good, take your time’ thinking he’s busy and he’s working by himself. 5 mins later he asks me to grab a drink and asked for his pardon. He stares at me and repeats the same thing again? In agony I ask if why he’s saying that and he goes ‘you’re here to pick up an order’. Simply based on my appearance he assumed i was an uber driver. It was honestly disheartening and frustrating as it was my first time in this store and I was looking forward to it. Later he doesn’t apologise but goes ‘i ask every customer to grab a drink before they order?’ Like he started making random stuff up.
