I have not been here for a while and was surprised to see very little people in the place it use to be anytime you went their you had a bit of a wait to get a table. I found the wait staff amazing and helpful, I orded as a main squid rings side of roasties and a side salad. The squid rings were tiny and shrivelled up and served on a bread board which I hate due to bad germs in the wood, the side salad was musculin leaves with small slivers of red onions and carrot and dressing nothing to it and the roasties were just small potatoes nothing else, I expected potatoes, kumara, and pumpkin and maybe some parsnips very very disappointed because I found it to be false advertising why put roasties when they should of put roast baby potatoes the only thing that made me full enough was my friend shared some vegetables of theirs and went half in desert. Bring back the original black board menu and prices and so many people will come back I won't be going back...
Read moreMe and a Flatmate went down to the club for a jug or 2 on a wednesday great service at the bar nice people and helpful..Then my flatmate was like i'm going to get some chips, cheese, etc then this Overly priced horrendous looking plate of chip's came.... with 6 overcooked Onion ring's that they charged $1 a pop for which in most kitchen's i've worked or run i'll cost them to 50/60c's per onion ring. Then tomato sause just splat on the plate not even in a ramakin, but they put the gravy in one? Then cheese if you can see it 100g (they said) from a chef's view all i see is (i don't care about my job) care in that dish!!! it's even better it's been in the oven/pizza oven too long.and chucked up.
Tip - Nice bowl plate stack chip's nice and high then chucked grated cheese on,then add gravy on top and that'll let the cheese melt naturally and not be baked on to single chip's every time and add a Side ramakin of tomato sause...
Read moreIt is what it is, a working mens club with aspirations. Staff are great, the customers not so much. Might as well have been back in Jakarta for all the eyeballs I was getting. Country music pumping, average age 65, irredeemably white & redneck, drank my first Export since being back, in saying that the beer on tap options have doubled, even had a cider! Menu is typical kiwi fare, meat, spud n a tiny bit of veg (huge portions btw), which combined with the overall vibe is comforting for a lot of people, but a bit sad, being well into the 21st century. I did get the eye from the only female custy under the age of 40, so...
