French Tart Cafe — Restaurant in Hamilton

Worst experience I have ever had in a cafe. While waiting for our food we witnessed the girl behind the counter (who was also serving food) picking at her face, scratching her nose. Had we not just paid 94.50 for 1 hot chocolate and 2 english breakfast teas and our meals we would have walked out then. Ordered 2 x eggs on toast with bacon and a side of mushrooms. However I ordered the balsmic Mushrooms on toast which came cramped on a sandwich size plate 2 pieces of sourdough and not enough mushrooms to cover 1 slice of toast and no balsamic. I ended up adding the side dish of mushrooms. When the chef was approached about the meal quality there was no apology or possible remedy offered, just a statement of "so I'll use a bigger plate? to which we added "yeah and mushrooms to at least cover the...

Sat down for breakfast for 3. Loved the vibe, coffee and food. I highly recommend the avocado on toast. I really enjoy that you can also food in half portions.

Food (5/5) Excellent food, great portion for the cost. Our option to swap fried eggs to poached was missed but didn't take from the food.

Service (3/5) Coffee served was mixed up. The server seemed confused what coffee was what when it reached the table. We ended up doing a swap-a-roo once sips had been taken.

Visited on a cold Hamilton winter's day (August 2018) and the door was being held open, making the entire front section of the cafe quite cold. I asked if we could shut the door, and was told it had to stay open or "the coffee beans would expand". Craziest story I've ever heard, other cafes can be nice and warm. We think their staff over the coffee machine were too hot. In the end they agreed to partially close the door, but every other staff member who went near it then opened the door wide again. Obviously their coffee beans are more important than their customer's comfort.
