PIXIE BOWLS — Restaurant in Hawke's Bay

You can't live in or pass through the Hawkes Bay without a drive-by to this delicious wee health-fest and caffeine cranking gem!! Created and run by two amazing local wahine, its got a casual cool 'getaway' vibe to it's interior design laced in warm energetic Kiwi hospitality. Down from Auckland for only two days I doubled-down on my brunch orders, because I simply couldn't make up my mind and knew I'd get major FOMO.

The Mind Bowl (smoothie bowl) was so fresh and fulsome I think my stomach stood up and gave it a round of applause. This is like a bouquet of goodness - also looked so beautiful it was hard to ruin it (but ruin it I did).

The Fish Philly was on a light fresh crispy bagel that didn't weigh me down and you just got to enjoy the smoked salmon/cream cheese goodness generously finished off with capers and all the trimmings.

Next day I went back and claimed the Ultimate Breakfast Smoothie which was chocka with goodness (but thankfully tasted a bit naughty), sprinkled with a heaped tablespoon of chunky toasted granola that made for a couple mouthfuls of cereal when you got to the end.

I also couldn't walk away from another one of those light crispy bagels, but down-sized to a classic cream cheese and raspberry jam and loved that it also came sprinkled with dried raspberry peices.

The coffee is also AMAZE, rich and smooth - best long blacks I'd had for ages. Whether you're an out-of-towner or a local, this wee diamond is an out the gate awesome way to start the day, so...

Amazing food!!! However, the staff are often very rude. In my experience - even if the restaurant is quiet - as soon as you have put your empty coffee cup down, the staff begin to glare and side-eye at you from over the counter until you leave. This is very rude and disturbing, and rushes one's experience because you feel obliged to leave AS SOON as you have finished your meal. Again, I would understand if it was busy & people are waiting for seats (or if it was closing time) however this happens if there is only one other...

I was excited to have found a place to get a matcha latte in Hawke’s Bay and pixies has a point of difference with their healthy menu and smoothie bowls. It was delicious! I had a Super Bowl with peanut butter ! The service was however a bit chaotic, the servers were upfront about the wait time and communication is always key however it didn’t appear there was any consistency to giving out numbers or whose bowl was who. I think if the process for managing orders out was fixed this would turn pixies...
