To say the High Street Bistro is the best place to eat in the Manawatu/Tararua is a complete understatement. The food alone is fantastic, high quality and never misses the beat. The flavors, variety and presentation of the food is nothing short of the highest standards. Once you see, smell and taste the food the High Street Bistro crafts, you will understand the pure love for food that is poured into their, what should be known as, art. The team is no except to the high standard. The moment you walk through the door, you are greeted with a friendly and relaxed smile. This paired with the atmosphere and music pumping, bring such a welcoming experience. Throughout the entire course of your meal, you are well attended too without being over the top and are always made to feel, you are being served by someone who has your best interest at heart. Of course, I have to speak of the amazing drinks that are on offer! I've got to the point I can just say, 'Surprise me!' and I can guarantee I'm going to get a drink that looks as impressive as it tastes. I've got to the point I have to limited how many drinks I have otherwise I would be there for hours. All and all, DON'T GO ANYWHERE ELSE. The High Street Bistro delivers exceptional food in a unique setting served by some of the friendliest staff we've encountered.
We arrived on a wet Friday night, tired and hungry without a reservation. Taking the last unbooked seats (by the door), we were made very welcome and as we finished our starters, we were offered a nicer table that had become available.
We shared the pork belly rolls starter. Expertly cooked pork, crisp crackling and just a little spice to tie it all together in the toasted milk buns. Mains stole the show, the slow cooked lamb shoulder simply melted in the mouth and the crumbed fish of the day was divine. Portions were very good, meaning a desert was a step too far. Based on the earlier courses however, we expect good things. The house wine was just as delicious as the food coming out of the kitchen. Nicole and her team were friendly, polite and attentive, really complementing the beautiful setting, vibrant atmosphere and top class food.
If we're ever back this way, we'll be heading to the High Street Bistro again, with an eye...
Read moreWe had heard good things about this place so made the journey to check it out. We were completely blown away... The staff were brilliant, even other customers were friendly (You know you've aced hospitality when this happens!)
The food was amazing, easily comparable to the quality you'd expect at high end establishments in Auckland or Wellington. The portion sizes were larger than expected which was a bonus, it's always easier to share the tasty morsels when there's enough to go round! However, the struggle was real when trying to make room for dessert.
We're really looking forward to coming back and trying out the new menu!
And I didn't even get a chance to talk about the cocktail list... Well, you'll just have to go in and check it out...
