WenJi BBQ Takeaway — Restaurant in Maungakiekie-Tāmaki

A very unassuming venue... only went here because its close to work and had very high A plus food hygiene rating and was busy at the time... what a good choice! I had the best salt and pepper prawns since going to awarding winning golden century in Sydney and the crispy pork / duck is off the hook. They hang it, behind glass and it offers traditional Chinese, very good! They have a craft in an nz back street row of take away shops... we all have one nearby. I love beautiful locations / experiences, I also love good well made food... what this lacks in location, it blows the top off the fact that it is just good food and...

If tastebuds could high-five, mine just did. WenJi BBQ is not a restaurant—it’s a full-blown flavour rodeo and my mouth was riding shotgun. I came, I saw, I conquered 12 skewers and left spiritually reborn. The lamb? Unreal. The spice mix? Illegal in 47 countries. The charcoal grill? Probably forged by ancient gods with a bone to pick and a need for smoky perfection.

Service was fast, the vibes were immaculate, and by the third bite I was Googling “how to franchise a WenJi BBQ.”

Do yourself a favour. Go hungry. Leave happy. Smell like BBQ for three days and wear it with pride.

Bought and paid for beef with black bean without rice. Come to find the container half empty. For $20, I expected a full container of food. Further more when I call to tell her that this is the case she starts arguing with me to tell me we must have eaten it on the way. Instead of apologising and moving forward. We have been a customers for over 30 years. And this is three households that support them. Dealing with her rudeness is just not acceptable. The food flavour is less than standard. Definitely will be finding another local takeaway to support going forward. Not recommending this...
