People, we had a beef cheek filo & a bacon & egg slice & a delicious pesto pasta salad, on a Saturday lunch stop in this quiet, dog friendly cafe that has plenty of seating, indoor & outdoor. The cabinet food flavours were ok with the bacon/egg slice portion size fairly small especially for $9.90 The coffee flavor was nice however the 12 onz large (what a joke!) cup was a regular size at best. To add insult the top of the coffee was close to 2cm ( tide well out) below the cup top with plenty of froth! My large coffee in a glass (same $6.50 price) was better, being larger in volume than the cup! This was our individual experience, other people's may be different, try it to experience it for oneself. Steve Franklin Rotorua

The new dinner menu at Fika Bar is simpler, featuring a selection of small plates, pizzas, burgers, and salads. Still, the food remains both affordable and high-quality. We tried several entrees, including the garlic and cheese bread, which melted in our mouths, the grilled vegetables, calamari, beef skewers, shrimp cocktail, and the standout dish—the chicken liver pāté. For the main, we opted for the mushroom pizza. I found it overly cheesy, which unfortunately masked the flavours of caramelized onion and chilli honey. A bit more balance would have elevated the dish.

The food here was great. We started with the potato skins, which were perfectly crispy. The rib special came out and was excellent value for money; the sauce was relatively sweet and very tasty. The gnocchi dish was the highlight of the evening; the sauce was so flavourful and rich. We had the lime and raspberry cheesecake and creme brulee to finish the evening. While the brulee was tasty, the cheesecake is not something you can get at many places, and would be our recommendation. Overall, it was a pleasant experience. The staff were very friendly and welcoming.

The Neighbourhood Restaurant: A Pleasant Dining Experience

My wife and I recently organized a gathering of friends for dinner at The Neighbourhood restaurant, and overall, we had a positive experience.

The restaurant has a welcoming ambiance, and we were pleased to find that a good portion of the establishment opened up to provide relief from the hot weather.

Initially, the wait staff was a bit slow in attending to our large group, but given the lively conversations we were engrossed in, it didn't pose a major inconvenience. Once our orders were taken, the service improved significantly.

The wait staff were friendly, pleasant, and provided good service throughout the evening.

The food, undoubtedly the highlight of our visit, was exceptional.

Personally, I enjoyed a perfectly cooked medium rare sirloin steak, while a few of my friends savored the braised beef cheeks, which received high praise.

The meals were delivered promptly, and it was evident that everyone in our group thoroughly enjoyed their selections.

The restaurant boasts a convenient location and a pleasant atmosphere, enhancing our overall dining experience.

Moreover, we found the prices to be reasonable, considering the quality of the food and service.

In conclusion, I would recommend The Neighbourhood to anyone in search of a nice restaurant with delicious food and...

Normally a great experience but tonight food took 90 minutes from when we ordered to turn up. All we ordered were snacks/share plates. (Patè, Chips, Ceviche, and Mussels)

We asked wait staff how much longer multiple times, they said it was being plated up but still took another 15 minutes after that.

In the end when paying we mentioned the issue again and they offered to not charge for any drinks, which was really nice of the staff, but letting people know upfront about delays on food (or being low on staff) would have been nice, but overall the experience is normally really good. First time we’ve ever had an issue in 9 years but they handled it in the end...
