So far we've ordered the butter chicken and lamb kadai. Both were excellent and superior than experiences at other local Lower Hutt curry takeaway places.
The Butter Chicken was enjoyed by our two kids and my wife. They enjoy a mild curry and were not disappointed by their choice even though it was slightly spicier than the most Pākehā of butter chickens. I tried some too and found it a more deep and sophisticated flavour and texture than most I've tried in the last few years. Plenty of spices and fresh herbs were used.
My choice was a Lamb Kadai. Lamb dishes separate the good chefs from okay chefs, so are a good tool to access chef skill. The chefs at Hyderabadi House know their stuff and created a rich brown gravy filled with flavour and tender lamb pieces that came apart easily.
I know it is just rice to some people, but the included rice was good, with a few herbs speckled through and lightly flavoured with something I couldn't quite recognise. Delicious.
Packaging was excellent, with plastic containers and glad wrap to keep them sealed. This really helps when you are driving the food home and are worried about corners.

Read moreToday I got my first biryani takeaway from this place. I was overexcited as I had heard some good reviews about this place from my friends. Therefore, I ordered a family pack without thinking to read some reviews about this place. First thing first, the chicken biryani I got from here was not a biryani at all. It was a chicken curry mixed with cooked rice. I am sure this was not a dum biryani what I was expecting. I have been cooking biryani at my home and I strongly believe that I can cook much better and authentic biryani than this place. The yogurt raita was just a diluted bland yogurt, the curry was smelling bad and seemed like raw masalas were just mixed with oil and there was no indication of use of ghee at all. The chicken was very dry, bland, not marinated and it’s aftertaste was bitter. Shame on you that you call whatever you sell as a biryani. If there was an option to give you zero rating then I would have given that to you. Please do not ruin the name of Hyderabad, and the authentic biryani...
Read moreWhen I (a South Indian) first came to Wellington, NZ I was truly disappointed by the Indian restaurants and got to a point where I stopped going to Indian Restaurants or Takeaways for a while purely because it just felt like the food served was a distant version of Indian food. There are plenty of North Indian restaurants but very few cater to South Indians.
When I got a Family pack of Chicken biryani from Hydrabadi House, I can say that my Faith in humanity was restored. The food is authentic, good in quantity and fairly priced for an immigrant like me. The staff who attended to me was very polite and professional. Overall, I would rate this is a 11/10 for bringing us outstanding authentic Indian biryani and I will visit this place much as I can.
Good luck to the Team and thank you for the wonderful food...
