Owhata Bakery has some seriously delicious pies, arguably the best in New Zealand. It was recommended that I stop in on my way through town. The shopping centre is run down and the storefront is not flash by any means (all good signs that the food will be excellent), but the pies were out of this world. They get pretty inventive with their flavours. A highlight was the pork and kumara, but if there is one pie that you try in your lifetime, please let it be the mince & cheese pie from Owhata Bakery. You have not lived until you have tried this pie!. The mince is perfectly cooked in a flavoursome gravy, the cheese is plentiful and sharp in flavour, the pastry is thick and soft and crumbly on the top. 10/10. Just writing this review makes me want to come back just so I can have another.

Yummy pies & bakery food if you're visiting Rotorua. Open early for brekkie. Good quality. $4.80 for most pies. Interesting variety of flavours. Mince and Cheese is a recent award winner. Nice clean shop. Good service.

Called in here for lunch last week and was disappointed. The beef roll was soggy with a slice of store bought beef, some store bought coleslaw and a dollop of pickle while the award winning pie was anything but award winning. If you call a pie Steak & mushroom then you should use steak in it, not gravy beef in huge chunks that no one cut the gristle out of or cooked long enough to tenderize and the 2 slices of mushroom that I found looked and tasted like commercially sliced 3 day old mushroom in a tasteless gravy all rapped in dry tough pastry. Finally there was the slice of bacon & egg pie that had soggy pastry, cheep minced bacon that was tasteless and full of salt ans egg that had been cooked to within an inch of its life. My impression was cheep ingredients slapped together without any care. I...

We came here on our way out of rotorua. I had read some previous reviews about this bakery so thought it was worth a try. When we walked in I was pleasantly surprised at the great selection of foods available, pie flavors, cakes, sandwiches, and more. I had mince and cheese and my man had steak and cheese. Neither of us were disappointed!! The steak melted in your mouth, the cheese was very tasty. My pie was filled nice and full woth mince and it was really tasty. $6.50 for a pie. I really enjoyed it, glad we stopped there. Recommend if ya...
