Paeroa Cafe, Bar & Brasserie — Restaurant in North Island

Don’t like to post negative reviews but I will make an exception in this case. The food was good but not worth the wait of 42 minutes for a burger, a steak sandwich and a plate of chicken tenders. That can be forgiven but the poor service and brazen attitude of the manager cannot. This is an iconic NZ brand and we were looking forward to eating there so very disappointed.

We arrived at 12:20 pm on Monday 6th May, 2019 and placed our simple order. The cafe was less than 25% occupied. After 30 minutes we noticed that two other tables that came on after us had been served. We asked if there was a delay with our order and were told no. After another ten minutes we asked again and the manager told us they were busy and those other tables were before us. When we pointed out that this was not true, she changed her story and said that they had simpler orders. That the wait we experienced was normal for them. Our meals arrived several minutes later.

I can forgive late meals, stuff can happen, an order can get left on the counter. When it does, the right thing to do is own it and apologise. Not so L&P. These people need a reality check. Good food is available in many places but good service and staff attitude is not available here. Really disappointed and unhappy with our experience this evening. Booked in for 5pm and showed up on time (4 adults and a 1 year old). Only one other family there. Waited 30 mins and no one came to get our orders. Had to get up and ask. Then we hear that the food we were all going to order (Ribs for three of us and wedges for one) were out of stock (okay, disappointing but not the end of the world). Never once did anyone check in on us. Waited an hour and 45 mins for our food (2 burgers, a salad, and a chicken dish). At this point we are definitely going to be late for bed time and have a very tired baby and hungry family. Other tables who came in after us were getting served before us. But other tables who came shortly after us were waiting just as long and very frustrated too (even mentioned something to us as we were all rushing out of the parking lot). The only reason they even get 2 stars is because the food was delicious. Service was horrible. No apologies for the delays, no compensation, nothing. Even bigger bummer that it’s one of the only sit down restaurants in Paeroa so will probably go to the other one from now on. Not worth the stress, frustration, money, or time to...

Had a disappointing experience due to high expectation when looking at the past menu on google! The menu posted on google is the old version which stated that they had L&P aioli with the chip but turn out they just have regular aioli in real life menu when we were there. The service is sadly very disappointing. The blond lady who took our order seems like a manager but was very indifferent and grumpy. We came late in the afternoon so didn’t order much which she shows obvious attitude toward us since taking the order. When she brought our food she just quickly slammed on the table and turn her back to walk away immediately. We felt worst than a beggar coming to her shop for her favor 😒 They have a fridge full of different size and bottle types of L&P but no price indicate on it for each type as they should be. So I had to ask for the price of each types and she said “just grab one and put on the counter” and appeared to charge as much as she want.
