Taupo Golf Club has two courses- Tauhara, shorter and and the cheaper of the courses and more suited to the casual golfer, and Centennial, longer and more challenging, especially off the blue tees! I've played both in the past and enjoyed them both but today I played Centennial both because I wanted to get around it again and it was far less busy than Tauhara with holiday golfers. I joined 2 members for the front 9. Bill and Wayne were in their 60's I think and a pleasure to play with. We all found our way around the course on our own different ways proving that the course is challenging to all golfers but also open to being played on different ways. The greens were in great nick despite being recently cored so I was told, and were running at a nice speed and running true. The scenery is fantastic as well. I liked the welcome I got from the pro shop to Bill and Wayne whom I met on the 1st tee. I'll definitely be back in Taupo again this year and I'll be coming to Centennial for another round too- I definitely recommend it. PS I especially enjoyed the 9th hole, a real looker...
Read moreTaupo Golf Club is a welcoming and friendly place to enjoy your round of golf, especially if on holiday. There are two courses, Tauhara and Centennial. If you are looking for an easier course that is not too long and difficult, then Tauhara is for you. Excellent for families with kids getting started or adults, too. The layout is really enjoyable. I'm a 6 hdcp, and I still enjoy this course. Centennial is a much longer and challenging course to play. Also very enjoyable. Both courses are kept in great condition year round. The soils are very free draining, so you are unlikely to ever find soggy footing. It is recommended that you book a tee time with the pro-shop staff. You can hire clubs and carts. There's a small driving range to warm up on, too, and some small practice greens for refining your touch before commencing your round.
If you are expecting resort standard course conditions, then I suggest you head for Wairakei GC or Kinloch GC. These two will satisfy you more and are both exceptional challenges in fabulous resort condition, but expect to pay +$250 per round...
Read moreTaupō Golf Club is a 36 hole of golf course, which consists of two 18-hole courses: I played the competition on the Centennial Course. There was a bit of a windy day, but the course was in great condition, I was made to feel so welcome and a part of the golf club with the members. Everything about Taupo is just beautiful. With the mountains as a back drop and lots of green trees around made it magical to see your ball flight off the tee is something to be experienced. The course has poa fairways and poa and bent grass greens. The elevated greens make shot making into the greens a precise skill. The course is challenging with trees lining the fairways and doglegs to try and conquer.
It is a beautiful place and highly recommend to make it a golf stop when...
