Food??? hmmm, you be the judge... I'm still debating ๐ค๐ค๐ค
Listen I'm not one to leave a not so good revue when it comes to food cause honey she loves her Kai!
Having worked in a lot of food establishments as a Waiter and as a Host to well established eateries here in Queenstown I gotta say my partner and I were a little disappointed and let down when we came here for lunch the other day.
The draw card to this place is the tranquil outdoor settings of bars where your dogs are invited and the landscaped gardens I must say are just immaculate.
The disappointment started when the maitre d seated us at our table. We weren't really greeted properly or offered any water at first or told there would be a server that would come to our table shortly. No one actually came to see if we had been looked after or needed any service for almost 40 mins. We did however appreciated waiters coming up to pat our dog. I did however wanted to say something at that time but my partner was curious to know how long it would take for someone to offer us some assistance and start taking our lunch order.
Listen, Breakfast and the service here on opening day was just Amazing and we had a great experience but with our recent experience I gotta say the lunch menu which is the same as the dinner menu here was a little disappointing sad to say ๐๐๐
When we were seen to finally the waiter serving us was very apologetic and actually very accommodating to us. For the long wait we were offered a free drink from the bar (Pity we don't actually drink) and we were given the Starter for free which consisted of a runny chicken liver patฤ on a brioche with cherries.
My $44 steak meal when it arrived was mediocre and it was a shame that I was still hungry afterwards. I only wished I had asked for the Cheeseburger meal that my partner had ordered which he said was good and because I was still hungry I ate most of his fries off his plate! ๐๐คฆ๐คฆ๐คฆ
Even though we called earlier to book lunch for 1:30pm we didn't actually start eating any food until 3pm.
Yes I wanted to say something earlier but my partner just wanted to wait and see just how long it would take someone to check to see if we were ok.
I know it's a new establishment and the Woolshed is their only Restaurant for now but I think they need to fine-tune a few things...
Still love this place and the ambiance is amazing and totally cool but they just need a bit more attention to detail, a better selection of reasonably priced lunch dishes that reflect the quality and portions of food served that are appealing to the local...
ย ย ย Read moreGreat venue but some service issues to be sorted ๐ค Ayrburn is a beautiful picturesque area to visit - the historic farm buildings have been restored and repurposed to a very high quality and the landscaping and gardens are amazing. It is worth a visit just to enjoy the incredible surroundings. There are multiple food and wine venues (and the Dairy for icecream and milkshakes) operating already while work continues on other venues - however the service we've experienced so far on 2 recent visits seems hit and miss. Visit 1 - we had afternoon tea with desserts on the deck at the Woolshed. The desserts though expensive @ $21 each were at least enjoyable. What seemed very odd was that our 2 pots of tea and cups were dropped off with no milk or sugar and no dessertspoons were provided before or when the desserts were dropped off separate to the teapots. So we had to ask for milk and sugar and then ask again for dessertspoons. Surely that should be offered or just supplied as a standard for tea and desserts ๐คท๐ผโโ๏ธ Visit 2 - we visited the Dairy for milkshakes. I pressed the button (as the sign requested) to get someone to come (as the Dairy isn't staffed) - the light came on but then went off. I pressed the button 3 times while waiting in between but saw no staff coming. Eventually I went to the Manure Bar to ask where the staff come from for the Dairy and explained I'd buzzed 3 times so far. The lovely woman there said they cover the Dairy but hadn't heard anything so they'd come and help us - she was also busy making drinks for the Manure Bar at the same time. Another woman came soon and they were very apologetic for our wait. The chocolate milkshakes were very good with lots of chocolate icecream so the $13 cost is understandable as it's not just milk and chocolate syrup with a bit of icecream. The making was quite labour intensive though with the machine they have to use - meanwhile other customers were waiting for sorbet and icecream. Not the staffs' fault as they were lovely and trying their best but management need to sort out a better system at the Dairy. This will no doubt become a must visit location for Queenstown - whether it is also for the food and wine will depend on how the service improves or not. There is plenty of carparking available or you can catch the Arrowtown bus from Queenstown CBD or Frankton Bus Hub to the Mora Wines bus stop then it is an easy 15 minute flat country walk further on to Ayr Avenue and Ayrburn (with...
ย ย ย Read moreAside from the fact that we had a wonderful time and dinner there last night this review is to put truth to the previous comment by Charlie van der Veek. I was on that bus last night with my wife and daughter. This was the well advertised 8:30 bus back to Queenstown. The bus was held to accommodate the group that Mr. van der Veek was part of to the extent that those of us who showed up on time had to wait and that the continuing schedule would be adversely affected. We are still not clear as to why Mr. van der Veek nor anyone else should expect that bus or any other form of scheduled transport to wait for for people who cannot bother to show up on time. Nonetheless it did. Portions of the group that Mr. van der Veek was part of arrived at the bus 10 minutes late pissed drunk and obnoxious and disrespectfully, rudely and loudly demanded that the bus continue to wait for additional people from that group that still had not shown up. The driver informed them that he had already waited long enough and that he had a schedule to keep and that he had to leave. One of their party then block the door with one foot on the ground and one foot in the bus so that the driver could not close the doors. She insisted that her friend was in the washroom and would be there in a minute. All this while other members of the group berated the driver. After waiting even longer this person did not show up and those of us on the bus who were not drunk concluded that he was probably in the washroom sick from his likely excessive alcohol intake. In any case, after many terse words, threats and ongoing obnoxious behaviour the bus left 20 minutes late. During the drive they continued to behave boorishly and it is a wonder that the driver was able to make the trip safely given the distraction. This situation is 100% the fault of a bunch of drunk and disorderly folks who should be ashamed of themselves. It should not reflect badly at all towards the Ayrburn or the driver, who incidentally handled himself and the situation very well. The bus driver and the Ayrburn did everything they could to reasonably accommodate Mr. van der Veek's group despite that they really didn't deserve it and behaved terribly. In reality given their drunken state they should not have been allowed on the bus at all. That, is what...
