I wish I could give Portsider more than 5 stars. In the last couple of decades, while travelling - mostly for work - all over the world, I've eaten in a lot of restaurants. Consequently, I will definitely chose to eat at home if I can possibly do so, because I know I can make more flavoursome and nutritious food than most restaurant chefs. Unless... I am able to eat at Portsider. This is one of only two restaurants in the world where the food is better than I can make for myself (and the other restaurant is permanently closed!). Furthermore, the place is comfy and cosy, the locals are friendly and fun, and furthermore, the beer selection is top notch! Impressive range of craft beer on tap and a fridge full of rare and interesting NZ beers. If you like wild-fermented beers from breweries like Cell Division or Craftwork, this is one of the few places you'll find them.
