We came here for dinner after our big adventure in the glowworm caves. Interesting atmosphere. Wonderful service. Read on for a detailed review of our food and drinks. We had the Korean fish bites, which were exquisite! Wow. I’ve had a lot of really lovely fish bites, from a lot of different places that serve seafood, all around the world, and these were among the best. Crunchy, but not too crunchy. Not too fried. The fish taste was coming through. The spice was on point. Just a celebration! Then my partner, Zac, had the caveman pizza, and I had the orzo pasta. My orzo pasta was very good. So full of mushrooms! They put extra cheese on top, which seemed a bit weird, but when I started in, it was delightful! My partner thought his caveman pizza was… Underwhelming. It looked great, but something about it was off. Not off, like bad, just not five star. For drinks, we had the red sangria, which wasn’t that good, because it basically tasted like red wine out of a bottle or can. Zac had a pint of apple cider that was nice, and then, later, I had the stoneleigh merlot, which was quite good. We wanted to have dessert, but they had already shut down the coffee and we wanted to have affogatos. The server was really friendly. And it was a great little place with a fun atmosphere. If it was nice outside, it would’ve been beautiful to sit outside. Really great spot to stop after you’ve had the glowworm adventure. They even had pictures on the wall of the company that we went with and the inner-tubing adventure that we had just experienced. it really was quite delightful, even though I had a few small complaints. We would go here again, without hesitation!

Did I mention that I was quite meticulous when it comes to planning? If I didn't.. I am! I don't like spontaneous decision when I go traveling - I like to plan ahead on the day so that I know that I am utilising my day by going to where I want to go, and eat what I want to eat. So we had a glow worm tour in Waitomo area, about 3 hours drive down south from Auckland. It was an afternoon tour and I was pretty sure that all of us would be famished at the end of the tour. We had sort of gone there first shortly before the tour and went there again later. Just a few minutes drive from Waitomo Cave, this cafe is big, spacious and with very nice view of its surrounding. ◾Crispy pork hock, Kumara mash, apple & coriander salad, chilly jam - the combination of all the ingredients worked for me, and j love devouring the pork hock. The fact that the hock was slightly overcooked made it 9/10.. I'd give it full mark if they got the texture right. ◾baked beans on toast - the next 3 dishes were for the kids and seeing the way they finished the dishes, it must be good. ◾ spaghetti bolognese ◾cheese on toast ◾Peanut butter parfait with butterscotch, creme anglaise, and chocolate - at $14... Oh my gosh I simply love love love this dessert! Beautifully presented on the plate, not too sweet and everything went well together. Best dessert of the year for me!!! ◾House red ◾Commendable cafe latte for the caffeine kick Apparently this cafe is one of the most popular in this area and I am glad that I went here... Service was friendly as usual and we headed to Hamilton with full and happy tummies afterwards.

This restaurant deserves 5 stars for the following reasons; Food; divine! I had the chicken breast and it was cooked to perfection. I also had the chocolate souffle', it was great, paired with a raspberry sorbet and chocolate sauce. Service; It was refreshing to be served by someone who understands and personifies 'genuine kiwi hospitality'. Drinks; I sampled the local craft beer on tap. I don't drink beer usually, but I was told to perhaps try a beer, that was really popular with the locals, I did, and it was like a cider ( minus lots of sugar). I urge others to try. X-factor; Kiwi hospitality, great food, surrounded by native trees and birds, a memorable experience. Thanks team Huhu, I will be back. Please give this a thumbs up if you found this review helpful and follow me on google maps for more honest reviews👍🏼 💕🙏💫

We had booked an accommodation at the camping nextdoor and a visit to the caves. If you look at the maps you get the (right) impression to be quite remote and there is little else there. This made us assume that what there would be, we should expect little of. We were pleasently surprised! Especially arter reading a review about staff being not-polite. Our experience was: kind and friendly staff (with a nice touch for x-mas: great “ho-ho-ho” earrings bringing a fun first conversation). We checked the menu and were indecisive due to multiple options that we liked. When we then saw. Pizza passing by for another table, we decided it was going to be and-and. The food arrived. Yes, it was too much (for which we were warned, we were stubborn), but we really enjoyed the food. We were also offered a box to bring the leftovers.

Absolutely brilliant. A great little find in a small town. We were staying the night after a day at the caves and had dinner. The meal quality would easily fit into any great urban restaurant, but the cafe feel makes it pleasant and charming. The evening we were there, it was busy, but this gave it a great feel, and the meals still came out quickly, and at great quality. Our kids were made welcome - we even had a chat to the table next to us, such was the atmosphere of the cafe and town. There are some good wines available, as well as some really good, local beers and ciders on tap. When other places in the town are really quiet, and HuHu is busy, that easily tells you something.

Everyone in town that we talk to spoke highly of HUHU. We went without much expectations since Waitomo was a small town with only a handful of restaurants/cafe. Turns out HUHU is now one of my favourite restaurants (worldwide).💯👍🏻 We were rather spoilt for choice with a good selection on the menu and went for their beef steak and pumpkin gnocchi. The beef is amongst one of the finest I have had in New Zealand (and the New Zealanders generally make a great steak dish). And the gnocchi is to-die-for. Serving was generous and every bite is good from start to end. I would make a trip down to Waitomo just to Dine here if I am ever visiting the North island again.
