We recently visited this place in Taupo and were looking forward to enjoying some Sri Lankan-style dishes. We ordered three different types of fried rice — pork, beef, and chicken — expecting each to have its own unique flavour. However, all three tasted almost the same, and surprisingly, none of them resembled traditional fried rice. Instead, they had the taste and texture of curry kottu, which was not what we expected when ordering fried rice.

Unfortunately, the kottu itself was also not very satisfying. The seasoning felt unbalanced, and the flavour did not match what we usually expect from a well-made kottu. Across most of the dishes, there was a heavy use of green chillies. While we do enjoy spicy food, the quantity here was so high that it overpowered the other flavours, making it hard to taste the rest of the ingredients.

On a positive note, the nasi goreng we ordered was quite enjoyable. It had a pleasant flavour, good seasoning, and a nice balance of spices. The portion sizes for all dishes were generous, and the presentation was colourful and fresh.

Overall, while the nasi goreng was a highlight, the fried rice and kottu did not meet our expectations. Taste preferences can vary, but for us, this experience fell short of what we...

I would say I am completely amazed.

Initially I thought I wouldn’t find delicious food in Taupo- when I found this one through Google . Not based in a busy location, I was unsure about whether it will be good. When the dishes were served, I was completely surprised. Each dish was cooked on the spot and prepared carefully by the chef. The seafood fried rice was the most special fried rice I have ever tried- the seafood used was still fresh and tender, while the cooking was just perfect. We absolutely loved it! The chicken was also great - perfect blend of sweet sour and saltiness. Steak with cheese was also great - first time to try cheese cooked in this way! Lamb with rotti was also great.

As someone who has travelled many countries and normally quite picky on food, I would say I am totally surprised and really happy that I found this one. The kids definitely loved it as well! I hope more customers could...

"I recently dined at The Local Diner Stag Park, Taupo, and I must say, it was an exceptional experience! The food was authentically Sri Lankan, bursting with flavors that took me straight back to the island. The portions were very generous—perfect for sharing or enjoying a hearty meal on your own. Every dish was cooked to perfection, with just the right balance of spices that truly brought out the essence of Sri Lankan cuisine. Whether you're a fan of spicy curries or milder flavors, there's something on the menu for everyone. The service was warm and attentive, making the whole dining experience even more enjoyable. If you're looking to indulge in authentic Sri Lankan food with great portion sizes and unforgettable taste, this is the...

Truly another gem in Taupo. I love how they kept the original diner concept and give the best of both world by introducing sri lankan cuisine. Their Sri Lankan version of Nasi Gureng were the best we have tried out compare to other restaurants. Their kottu also carry the authentic lankan taste to it. We have been obsessed with this place. Its worth to check this place out if you are visiting or living near Taupo. We would definitely come back.
