Had heard a lot of noise around olde beach bakery. Found it to be very mid and unfortunately Won’t be going back. Spending around $60 at the bakery I had a different expectation from the experience. The $9 yes $9 curry Pie was a nice flavour but instead of brushing egg/milk over the pastry I think they may have dunked it in egg/milk The pastry cut my gum šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚ I tried 2 other pies aswell - mid The $4.50 Mince and cheese Savoury pie was a bolognese mince pie. I tried a donut that I couldn’t finish due to a massive sweetness overload and a filled roll for redemption and was unfortunately not pleased. My bro got a scone -didn’t offer to heat it up and a donut he couldn’t finish either due to being too sweet. I understand the community and demographic surrounding for this bakery is sitting nicely at 90.9% European/Pākehā for with 4,845 (38.1%) aged 30 to 64, and 4,632 (36.4%) aged 65 or older. It probably makes sense as to why they lack flavour and have overpriced cabinet food. Dont buy the hype! Their pies do not look like their photos

Have been to Olde Bakery twice now, once to pick up some things to share with my boyfriend and his family, and another time very recently for coffee and something sweet with friends. The second time we sat outside and enjoyed the Sunday morning sun in the courtyard - it was so lovely. You can’t go wrong here as there are great options for everyone. I really enjoyed my coffee and hot cross bun, and remember finding the donuts and pastries to be super tasty! Highly recommend giving this place a visit, I will be back again I am sure. There’s a reason it is so popular!

Friendly staff and environment. It can get quite busy around lunch and parking is a bit hairy. They have an ok range of pies, pastries and filled breads. Coffee was passable but not rich or strong. Some outdoor seating with both low and high seats, was made a little difficult by large pebble yard. I enjoyed a nice quiet sit down attended by a cleanup crew of cute and chirpy sparrows. I was not a fan of the metal link tassle doors, as they catch on my arm when I'm trying to carry coffee outside. Reasonable prices and the food is tasty.

I traveled excitedly from Wellington to Olde Beach Bakery after reading its reviews. The premises were somewhat anti climatic. No seating inside, it seemed to be just a takeaway bakery with some outside seating in a pedestrian back yard. Still I ordered the steak pie and a vanilla cream filled donut, brown bagged, with white coffee to sit outside in the sunshine. No water or beach views just a backyard complete with beer bottle edgings. The pastry of the pie was flaky perfection. Filling was meat filled and delicious although I was sorry I didn’t grab some tomato sauce. Sugar covered donut was a poor choice… too much custard consistency filling left me washing it down with my coffee. At $19.90 for a pie donut and coffee I was disappointed, especially when soon after not feeling well I was told to walk to the beach to the public toilets. Ended up besmirching the road between two parked cars. Whether the pie filling or donut caused my Delhi belly I can’t be sure. However it’s the first time I’ve eaten such a calorific lunch and ended up losing weight. In the famous kiwi...

I have been patronising the Old Beach Bakery for several years almost every day, and without exception, through successive changes is staff, including those currently employed, they have all been friendly, courteous and exceptionally efficient. My regular time each morning is at 6.30 am, and also regularly at other times when patrons have been queued out the door - which, incidentally, is another testament to the high esteem in which the Bakery staff and their service are held. During busy times, the focus of the staff is on keeping the time to serve each patron as short as possible, yet, despite the exceptional demands on them then, and the need to focus on efficient provision of service, the atmosphere is friendly and courteous.

Aged 83, I am an Emeritus Professor from Massey University, who throughout a long career in three countries has had responsibility for staff in widely varied circumstances. On this basis, I rate the Old Beach Bakery staff very highly indeed. Well done Old...
