Went here on a recommendation which almost instantly regretted. After ordering two drinks were asked was there anything else - 2 people = 2 drinks hmm 🤔 Ordered burger and warm vege salad from the "Main event" section with supposedly 'Seared haloumi' it arrived as what could only be described as a miserable assemblage of bland vegetables with barely 3 bits of haloumi lost in the tiny bowl. The waitress was alerted immediately to the lack of cheese and returned to say that's how it should be. We didn't finish the salad, were charged fully for the bill, and only asked to speak to the chef who was too scared to leave the kitchen. We were offered a voucher to return (unlikely as live in the South island) or a drink. That was besides the point really, takeaway points from this - serving staff arrogant to anything being wrong with the dish, once we spoke with the chef his only response was for a cheap dish you couldn't expect much more. To me haloumi to a vegetarian is the same as a juicy steak, don't deny them the pleasure! The old menu we took the recommendation by had what one would expect from such a salad (pictured), replete with greens and a zingy dressing, and also gluten free (which the Israeli couscous in this one was not) Great to be back from overseas where food culture is so vibrant and return to such a miserable performance of kiwi hospitality. Burger ordered at the same time was bland and didn't have any redeeming features apart from not resembling the aforementioned salad. Get a kebab down the road and save yourself the money and time.

On the off chance they had a decent plate, we wandered in to what looks like a classic kiwi pub. It was pleasantly surprising to find, no smell of a public bar on entry and a very tastefully decorated venue with a light and airy space for dining, away from the bar service area. The waitress was very prompt and followed up quickly. We were in at 5pm on a Thursday and there were quite a few booked tables where we sat, but we still found great seating. He had the burger and I had the beef kebabs. The chips were fresh and crisp, with great seasoning. I'd happily go back, it's got a very friendly comfortable vibe. The prices are reasonable on the menu and it's definitely not your typical suburban pub. It's much better than that. Well done Pickle Jar.

Hands down the best burger and wings I’ve had in Wellington, and it’s not even close. I have to ask them to hold the lettuce and sauce as the lettuce is shredded and therefore makes the mix a bit watery, which in turn causes the bun to slide all over the place, but today I just asked for cheese and ketchup, and this was the right move. I was able to taste the medium-rare chargrilled flavor to perfection. Absolutely delicious. It’s a real treat when we come here for dinner. The spicy wings are equally good (I ask for them to be made well done), and I hold the ranch dressing and just get the spicy sauce. Simple is best, and the results pair perfectly with my mildly manicured burger. 🤌🏻

Always busy, yet speedy service. Every time I come here I get the same thing - the Pickled Cheeseburger - really need to broaden my horizons but it's just soooo good! Best burger I've ever had, anywhere. (Big talk!) Decent cocktails are a bonus. The Pickle Jar - Karori's not so hidden gem! It's popular for a reason. Love this place.
