We ate there a year ago and we were really happy with everything...which is why we came back this year....
This year we were not entirely happy because of the following:
Had to tell the waitress i wanted a fruity red whine...as she did not seem to understand the difference between a dry and wet wine. i am no expert myself...but that was the first time in a resturant they did not understand what i meant with wet and dry wine...she could report they had no wet red wines. We got a fruity one which was nice..suggested by the headwaiter(??)..which was half dry...and ok. Yet she said they had neither half dry or halfwet wines.
I ordered the onion soup. 99nok seems a bit stiff for a bit of bouillon with onions and a drowned piece of loaf. Priced at 50nok this might be justified...
My main coarse was good. Mirabel seafood dish. Was quite tasty...and was a lot of food and they exchanged boat-fried potatoed with baked potatoes at my request. I cannot even fantom fried potatoes working with that dish. The baked potato was perfect.
Wife had the same as last year...the herring...but last year she got sauce with it...this year she got a piece of fried fish and it was quite dry without any sauce. She was very disappointed with the dish because of this....
As for desert my wife had the cheese cake which was tasty...although 90% cream and 5% cheese. with some fresh fruits. We have had better cheese cakes at Expresso House being 90%cheese mixed with cream. So this was a bit of a let down.
I went for the chocolate mousse with icecream. This was a bit of a disappointment...not because it tasted bad..it did not....but because it was the same chocolate mousse you buy in any grocery store and mix with milk and let cool for 30 min. I expected a home made chocolate mousse from a resturant...not a prefabricated one which had not been chilled to be "moussed"...quite frankly the prefabricated icecream saved its appearance as it lokked like a big turd on a plate...😂..could have been served a bit more subtle...
The service was not bad...but was a bit awkward. It did not seem like the staff had fixed tables...and i think we had 4 waiters/waitresses serving us.
When i asked for the dessert menu the waiter never brought it...so i had to ask again another waiter.
When i go to a resturant of this type...i go there expecting the waiter or waitresses to actually monitor our drinks and refill wine (we had a bottle) and water. They never did.
They waited until we were almost finished...i was finished...my wife was not...to ask if the food was satisfactory...and then no more queries.
We were planning to use the toilets before leaving..but decided to go to the cinema. Later i read a lot of reviews...bad ones... about the toilets...so i am glad we did not go in.
I am not some snob...but when we go out it might be every 6 months...and i expect to pay for service and chef made food...sure it can be pre-prepared and reheated...but we pay a lot of money...1600 almost with tip...and expect more...not pre-fabricated powderfood.
I KNOW this resturant can do better. They did last year!
When we were there last time it was a real pleasure.
One good thing is that the chefs are good at making food LOOK good there..(not the deserts...the main courses)
I do not think we will go back. I read a review of another lady who went there who complained about the food...and ended up being told she would no longer be welcome there as a customer only because she complained about being served the same dish twice....
I write THIS review because the resturant sent me an email to write a review...i hope they will not tell us we are no longer welcome because of it...because i work in customer services myself...and you should treat customers with respect and take complaints to heart and strive to always do better...
People don't complain without reason...
If we graded our dinner last time in 2016..a year ago...they got a 5/5...
This time in 2017 it was a 3/5 ...simply because we...

Arrived just after they opened, at 11am.
We were a party of 2, and were greeted with a smile and asked if we had a reservation, which we didn't. The Decoration was modern(just as the music choice - a soft pop) and cozy, with a touch of class. Uniforms were black&white, modern but not overly compicated, and they fit the decour quite nice. The waitress showed us to a table prepared for four guests, by the window, with a nice view of the restaurant terrace and the main street. She than took drinks orders, with a reccomendation both for alcohol free, and alcoholic choices. She had some reccomendations for the main dish when we asked her, namely Chicken Diana, which I ordered. We also ordered a Pizza a la Parma to share as a starter, and my friend ordered a Spaghetti Gratinati. The set of cutlery for two more on the table (table was set for four), was not removed, but it was far enough on the side, so it was not a bother. The pizza arrived fast, about ten minutes after the order was taken. It was served by a second waiteess, that also brought us a couple of extra plates so we could share it. Pizza was sliced, which was good as we were both going to enjoy it. The bun was excellent; thin, but also fluffy, with a slight crunch, but not overcooked/burnt. All the ingredients and the bun itself were fresh, with the perfect amount of chese. Spot on as a starter for two or even three guests. (Most pizzas could also be seved glutenfree) Staff was attentive during the meal, and got us refill of water, and removed the plates/cutlery as soon as we had finished with our starter. We also got an extra order of drinks for the main dish, at which point I remembered that I had not specified how cooked i would like my pasta. I asked the waitress if i could have it al dente, and she said she would look into it. Unfortunately the main dishes arrived few minutes after, and she apologized as the pasta was already finished, so my request was unfortunately late. (In Norway there is a tendency to overcook the pasta, and it is sadly the standard way to serve it, so thats what i got too) When the pastas arrived, we were mainly surprised by the size. They were HUGE. Two people could easly share the one i ordered, and for the Spaghetti Gratinati, i would even say that they could cover for three guests. With such a size, we knew we would have difficulties to finish them. (Such big portions make it unnecesary for a Starter or Dessert at all). We did not get a new set of cutlery, but we did have the extra ones that were not removed, so we jusy used them. Even though the pasta was, as expected, overcooked, the taste was there. Chicken was tender, the use of spices, herbs and the other ingredients: something to admire. The only thing, if we need to get picky, would be that they used a touch more cream than i would consider perfect. My friend, which had the Spaghetti Gratinati, and who is Norwegian, found the meal as close to perfection as it could get. He also mentioned that the place was cozy and romantic enaugh, that he considered taking his wife on a date in a future ocasion. Also to be noted that the place is quite cheap, considering the freshness, quality of the food, and the attention to deteail from the staff. All in all, an amazing experience, and a place i would visit again whenever i have the...
Read moreWe had reserved a table for two on a very busy Saturday evening. Unfortunately we waited for more than one hour for our food. Reminded the staff several times about our long wait, and got insurance that the food is being made and that it will only take a few more minutes. Couldn't see that the staff were checking with the chef, until I told them we were about to cancel. We ordered the Chateaubriand and Filet mignon. Nice presentation, but the meat was dry and unseasoned. Come to think of it, the waitress who took our order, forgot to ask how we`d like our steak done. And this was both dry and overcooked. Got to talk to the manager eventually, and gave our feedback. Had to negotiate to get a discount after only being offered a free desert. Sadly this was a poor experience for us. I expected more from this restaurant and higher standard from the staff working there. After all its fairly high priced, and gives the expression of a high...
