I had been meaning to try Asian Wok for quite some time and am glad I took the leap of faith in this case.
Ordinarily, most famous eateries are overhyped. But I'm happy to say that Asian Wok doesn't fall in that category.
The food itself was quite tasty (do note that it's a somewhat desi touch on Chinese cuisine and not 100% authentic).
I had the hot n sour soup (7.5/10 - i preferred that there be some spring onions but do note that this is a personal preference), special chow mein (8/10 - I was hoping for larger sized prawns), the steamed dumplings (10/10 - great filling, perfectly cooked, and wonderful sauces), special fried rice (9/10), and the chicken with almonds (9/10 - the roasted almonds were spectacular).
I will also add that complimentary crackers and mint margaritas were also served.
And I'd like to take a moment to appreciate just how amazing the margarita was. It truly added a lot to the overall food experience and was simply an amazing blend and not just a random green coloured beverage.
The portion sizes were decent but it can still be argued that the place was overpriced. However, considering the quality of the food and the flavour, I'd say that Asian Wok ticks all the right boxes.
The service was also amazing. We had a nice note stating the name of our waiter and everyone was super responsive and attentive. And that is something I really appreciate.
I did feel however, that the place was a bit cramped and felt somewhat crowded. But this could be the case since I was visiting on Eid. They could also invest in better music selection and sound systems (but again this is my personal preference).
In conclusion, I'd recommend it as a place you can visit when you want to have some wonderful chinese food and aren't on a budget (but again, the quality of the food more than makes up...
Read moreI don't give out 5 stars to most food places or such formal reviews because somehow something isn't perfect. Only today I feel like giving even more than 5. I have also never found myself to ever be excited for Chinese/Asian cuisine but now I realise that it's probably because I've never had the chance to try good one.
The menu was filled to brim with items and each one of them was made with such mastery that even most specials in other places don't compare. The service, style, atmosphere and presentation was excellent.
I also want to mention the subtle things that made my experience worth it. The way each dish was presented, the dishes switched flawlessly and time gaps filled with small snacks added to the experience more than it should.I often found myself searching for something to criticize but couldn't.
If anyone visits, I personally would recommend the lobster or snapper fish with red saice and if you're an old man like me, the special soup with black mushrooms and shrimp. The deserts can improve a bit. Although on the expensive side, it was not regretful.
Summary: Food - 9/10 (Excellent) Atmosphere - 8/10 Service - 9/10 (Could be a bit faster) Cleanliness - 10/10
Best For: Taste, Presentation and Service.
Could Improve: (Nitpicking here) Time and Bigger Space (Although the small space has...
Read moreWell after their actual dine-in place shutdown due to damage from fire etc., this is Asian Woks' makeshift arrangements for serving the same quality of food and service, without a proper dine-in seating arrangement.
Pricing seems to have increased a bit. Quality was Ok-ish, not the one I used to associate with the original eatery. Islamabad branch in my humble opinion is better. Of course these guys have put up some discount offers if you've got some specific bank cards. I also inquired about the opening of a proper branch to which the management said that it's under progress and will take around 3-4 months to complete and is located at the back side of Kallisto Restaurant, Bahria Town.
There's a provision for a toilet for the visitors, and that's a plus. It was neat and tidy. Mostly their own riders and/or Foodpanda riders are present or rather those who intend to avail car dine-in front of this branch. That too is a new experience. A serving trolley is placed near the door of the driver's side of the vehicle and either you can request them to serve or you can prefer self service, it's totally up to you.
The staff is very very humble, polite, and very respectful. They are very prompt and take no time to take orders, and also refill the complimentary Mint Margaritas being served...
