Restaurante La Típica — Restaurant in David Sur

Here is likely the largest fonda I have ever been to. Located right on the corner of main street, it is hard to miss. This is one of those places that a tourist should experience due to its size, variety, and busy activity amongst the locals.

They offer prepared food displayed on the counter ready to be served, as well as many other items you can order from the menu. Included are Panamanian dishes found in any typical restaurant such as tortillas, tamales, pancakes, fish, among others. The selection does not stop there. I also saw Chinese Panamanian options such as beef, shrimp, and chicken with broccoli.

Other good things about this restaurant are the large spaces between tables, good service, and that they are open until 1 in the morning. I would return for the large dining area, natural lighting, cleanliness and quality seats and tables.

Hoy fui a este restaurante y pedí el "cangrejo con salsa secreto" y terminé totalmente decepcionado. Lo que recibí fueron solo extremidades del cangrejo, sin carne visible, y tuve que usar un utensilio para romper la coraza. En la imagen del combo se mostraba claramente la carne del cangrejo con patacones y algunas extremidades, lo cual no coincidía en absoluto con lo que me sirvieron.

Le expresé amablemente mi inconformidad a la mesera, quien habló con el gerente. Lamentablemente, el gerente mostró una total falta de empatía y no hizo ningún esfuerzo por resolver la situación. ¿Quién en su sano juicio espera que un cliente pase entre 30 minutos rompiendo un cangrejo para poder comer?

Finalmente, terminé pidiendo un bistec con papas porque simplemente tenía hambre. No pierdan su tiempo hablando con meseras o gerentes en este lugar: el servicio al cliente no es su fuerte, pero para cobrar sí son muy eficientes. Es el primer restaurante en David al que voy y salgo tan frustrado. Por cierto, aplicaron el descuento de jubilado de mi papá en mi plato para hacerme sentir mejor. Una experiencia...

After 12 days in David we finally found some good seafood. I know it's a short drive to the beach and I'm told that's where the seafood comes from but we didn't go there. The ceviche and corvina entero were what I was looking for.. Clean nice staff and cool with moderate prices. I will go back...
