When this place opened more than 25 years ago, it was something of a novelty. But it has remained trapped in the past, with a dire need of an extreme makeover in both their menu and their decor.
I imagine part of its appeal must the yellow patina that permeates the entire place. It certainly cannot be the unimaginative food, or the location: heavy traffic, no place to park, a less than romantic view of Huaca Pucllana.During my short visit a huge irrigation truck parked in front of the place, with the engine running, and making a non stop racquet.
The efficiency of the service reflects the time the workers have been on the job. They haven’t been surprised with any new dishes in the last two decades so their boredom is understandable. Same old same old.
I ordered a mint infusion, which was glad to see it was served on a teapot with loose herbs, as opposed to what most places serve theirs in: a teabag in a cup. I added the Suspiro de Chirimoya dessert, hoping to get something new with a fresh take on it, but the the little chunks of chirimoya were drowned all the way in the bottom of the cup, by the overwhelming heavy syrup, a signature element of the original Suspiro that can kill an entire bee colony. When I was young I could tackle this ode to sugar, but nowadays I could not even swallow a teaspoon. Hard to tell what had more sugar: the meringue scoops on top or the dense syrup below. In these healthy conscious times when the ill effects of sugar consumption on anyone’s health are well known, it is unthinkable to still be making this dessert. Why not try to revamp the recipe to appeal to a younger healthier generation? Because everything this musty restaurant is about, is to keep resting on its...
Read moreI have dined all over the world and have dined at la Trattoria before but last Friday I went there for lunch and I don't know what happened this time but everything had gone down hill. I ordered their pan campesino and it was absolutely uneatable, hard as rock totally dried out, then I got spaghetti con langostinos and wasn't even asked how I preferred my pasta cooked so they brought what they called Al dente , well this was raw uncooked spaghetti with a watery juice on the bottom of the plate that totally dripped off of the spaghetti and shrimp with no flavor whatsoever. Not even offered some parmesan or included on top. I returned both plates as they unedible. Contrary to the previous time I had been there when food was ok. Totally...
Read moreThe restaurant itself is beautiful and the view of the ruins sets the vibe quite nicely. However, the food was a bit lack lustre. We had ordered the Margherita pizza but the crust was identical to pizza hut’s crust. Not typical for a Margherita pizza. The flavor of the pizza was good. What brought us to the restaurant was the advertisement of the ´Cheesecake de manzana al caramello’. I ordered the item and about 20 minutes later the waiter came back to tell us that this was already finished. It was only 4pm and the restaurant is open until 12am. Instead, we ordered the churros and I must say, those churros were some of the hardest...
