This restaurant was named after a local sauce usually served with Sinigang. It is made of small shrimps mixed with rice gruel plus a local herb bearing red color. An art gallery as well, this restaurant is a haven for painting and carving enthusiasts. I give Balaw Balaw Restaurant extra thousand points for providing a separate sink just few cartwheels away from the dining area. Guests are encouraged to wash their hands and of course eat with their hands.
What to order: LAUYA, like sinigang except that Rizal folks drop cinnamon bark (sangkit) while waiting for the beef to be tender. MINALUTO, a Filipino take on the paella was the star on our table. We had it in two versions: yellow and black. It is made of pork, chicken adobo, seafood, bougainvillea salad, crispy alagaw, burong balaw-balaw, fried & dried fish, grilled squid and more. Rice was colored black because of the squid tint. ENSALADANG MANGGA
TIP: Regular minaluto (steamed rice, mussels, prawn, crab, water spinach, pork adobo, tomato and salted egg) - Php 335 with yellow rice: Php 350 with binagoongan rice: Php 350 Prices changw without...

We were the only diners when we arrived and also the only diners when we left. We ordered the Crispy Kangkong, Sinigang na Kanduli sa Miso, Ensaladang Talong sa Gata, Minaluto and Guinumis.
Our order arrived in probably 30 to 40 Minutes. Not the Restaurant if you are in a hurry as they probably cook everything when ordered only.
The Sinigang na Kanduli sa Miso was delicious, its sourness was spot on. The Minaluto had a little bit of everything, the Shrimps, Crab and Tahong were fresh. The Kangkong and Adobo were also good. The Ensaladang Talong was also delicious. Servings were okay for the price.
It was a Good Lunch and the Servers were friendly...

To all the tourists who like to check first where to go, THIS. IS. YOUR. SIGN.
I didn't expect it at first to be that good. When we arrived, I thought of it like another usual local restaurant. But when the food got served, and when I took my first bite of their Balaw Balaw Rice, I got really surprised because there was this explosion of flavor that I only experienced when I dine in fancy restaurants.
It also has an art exhibit (mix of paintings, wooden sculptures, and paper machés used during the Higantes festival.
This experience is one of my best decisions ever. We almost went to tagaytay, but thankfully, I chose to...
