WARNING — dishonest business!!
Just had a terrible experience here. Staff was kind and smiling the whole time—until it came time to pay the bill. They quoted me a price more than 100 PHP more than I knew it was—so I asked to see the receipt. That’s when their demeanor changed entirely.
The two women were definitely in on the scam together, because they made a big show of not wanting to show me the receipt and not wanting to let me show them the correct prices on their own menu. It was incredibly awkward. They were nervously laughing and speaking in low and quick tones, it could not be more obvious that they were trying to find a face saving way to act like it was a simple mistake after getting caught trying to cheat a customer.
When I insisted, I saw the handwritten receipt had the first number scratched out and changed from a 3 to a 4—blatant overcharging of tourists!! There is not a single 400 piso item on their menu, so it is impossible for it to have been a mistake. They are dishonest liars.
I expect treatment like this from tricycle drivers, but even plenty of them are honest. These people are DISHONEST. TAKE YOUR BUSINESS ELSEWHERE!!!!!
The real shame of it is that this was my last night in Masbate, and other than this experience, the entire island has been so wonderful. There are kind and honest people everywhere—but not at this restaurant!! Avoid them at all costs!! Take your business elsewhere!!
Oh, and their seafood kare kare is Abysmal; watery like bulalo, almost inedible. Normally I leave five star reviews, but I was just going to skip this restaurant because I thought the food was only worthy of two stars. But their fraudulent dishonesty has forced me to warn others.
People like this destroy the tourism industry in the Philippines—such a sad way to end a great trip. I won’t hold it against anyone but this restaurant, though. Most Filipinos are kind, honest and god-fearing. I will pray for these two people, and hope they learn that honesty, integrity, and your reputation are worth more than 100...
Read morenot as we much expected but we brothers did go for the food, I knew about the restaurant from a fellow travelling friend as he recommended it. I would definitely also recommend this restaurant for seafood lovers, and those who'd like to taste original filipino recipes of barbeque, stew, and raw seafood dishes, this is definitely the place for you to visit. gave it 4 stars though cause the waitress when we went there wasn't that accomodating and also the air conditioning was misplaced, causing uncomfortability for us...
Read moreA highly recommended place for seafood (and generally, Filipino) delights without leaving Masbate City. The restaurant looks old-fashioned and seems to have stood the test of time.
I was so surprised by the serving size and prices. While I think the grilled tanigue was too buttery and the kare-kare lacking a peanut-y kick, they’re still satisfying enough. My favorite was the seafood soup called mamsa.👌🏼
The staff was...
