A visit to the heritage city of Silay wouldn't be complete without a stop at El Ideal, the town's oldest bakery, nestled in an ancestral building along the highway. Stepping inside, you're instantly transported back in time by its captivating ambiance—a perfect complement to your Silay adventure. The bakery's shelves are laden with a tempting variety of breads and pastries, with their renowned guapple pie being a standout. Though I was disappointed to find it unavailable during my visit, their apple pie proved to be a delightful consolation. The attentive staff was quick to assist, making the experience even more enjoyable. El Ideal is an absolute must-visit! I can't wait to return to Silay City and finally savor that elusive guapple pie.

El Ideal (pronounced "El Idjal") is an institution on Silaynon culture. Established in 1920s (and believed to have been started even earlier), it is home to the famed guapple (guava apple) pie. For a province known for sugar, the guapple pie isn't very sweet. It just has the right sweetness, a bit of sourness and the aroma of cinnamon. Best with hot black coffee! It's a must bring pasalubong, aside from the cakes in Calea and your usual piaya. Good thing that it is located only a few minutes away from the Airport, in a lovely heritage house in a historic city.

I do really like there foods.especially the egg pie and cassava cake but one of my companion ate a steelwall (gina gamiy pang hugas sang kaldero or kichen itensils) Thrn he go to the crew or in the counter and yold them that there was something in there food but instead of giving actions they just nod their head and said okey. without doing something right. yes we do visit silay just for their foods because its delicious but if ther was something wrong you need to take proper actions. im so disappointed on them badly.

Best buko pie I’ve ever tasted! This is way better than those offered in Tagaytay or Laguna. As the first bakery in Bacolod and established last 1920, I was expecting some sort of a museum where they showcased their journey. However, upon entering you will be welcomed by all El Ideal goodies/treats and pasalubong. All are well priced. Some interesting finds: *guavaple pie- made of guava strips. Very interesting! (I think it has some cinnamon). *Goat’s Milk Barquillos *Crispy Pandesal- smallest pandesal I’ve seen!

Made a stopover, ordered Pancit Molo and Fresh Lumpia. It's my first trying the dish called Pancit Molo, after hearing tagalogs say it's so nice to have on rainy weathers, and damn the Pancit Molo was really good! The ambience is also nice, looks historic and well maintained. It was in the afternoon on a Holiday when we arrived, It's a place known for pasalubongs but too bad I didn't get to try the Buko Pie. Most of their signature delicacies were already sold out. Next time, be extra early.

Sadly, the Guapple Pie was already sold out when I went there one Sunday afternoon. I went with the Fruit Pie instead. Although the fruits look like they were from a canned fruit cocktail mix, it was still delicious. I also ordered the Batchoy which was hearty. The Calamansi Juice was too sour for me. I added some sugar to cut the acidity. The interiors are quite nice, very cozy. The toilet was also clean. They don't have bike parking so I just chained my bike to a post.
