Sztolnia Wieliczka — Restaurant in gmina Wieliczka

We went for a meal after seeing great reviews on the way back from the salt mines. I was extremely hopeful after seeing the menu and a few burgers come out on the pass. My wife ordered grilled camembert and onion soup starters, to come out as mains and me and my daughter ordered Nutella naleśniki i ordered the BBQ bacon burger. I think there was a little confusion as the soup and camembert came out quite quickly and me and my daughter waited at the table with nothing in front of us while she ate. Clearly the waitress hadn't understood our order properly, no big deal. It's happened before. Just strange nobody in the front of house noticed. Eventually my wife told the waitress that she could bring out our mains when they were ready. The burger and naleśniki came out shortly after, presentation was excellent naleśniki were given the thumbs up from my daughter and I'd tried the soup, and it was pretty good. Although I think it was a chicken based broth as usually onion soup is usually made with beef stock. I was a disappointed with my burger, it looked great, but had way too much poor quality bbq sauce. They would do much better paying a little extra for a good one and using half as much. It was almost impossible to eat, even after cutting it in half. Both top and bottom of the buns were completely soaked in it so the bun was falling apart in my hands. I had to remove the tomato slices as there was way too much moisture in there to have any chance of eating it together. They were also extremely acidic so probably had been sat around in the warm too long. The brioche bun was a little on the dry side, probably had been toasted a little to early and also sat around in the warm too long. The burger was also nowhere near cooked medium as stated in the menu. If I'd had known i would have specified medium rare. There wasn't even a hint of colour in it. It was more well done than medium that's for sure. The fries were also a little disappointing. If I'd had to guess they were house made but hadn't been cooked properly. They tasted like they'd been cut and fried directly without any steaming or blanching first. So they were incredibly starchy. The coleslaw wasn't bad, but I can't eat fresh cucumbers so it was a little strange to taste it in it. It was very fresh so I'll give them that. We walked in at around 3pm. Since we didn't make a reservation, the waiter gave us a seat facing the toilet. It was uncomfortable, but I think it doesn't matter if the food is good. We ordered half a portion of honey beer ribs, duck dumplings and salad. After waiting for a long time, several dishes were served together. I was glad that the waiter helped us order half a portion of ribs, because the taste was not very good and a bit fishy. I only ate half of it. The duck dumplings tasted relatively better, but the sauce was not very good. The salad sauce tasted like toothpaste, but the vegetable side dishes of the salad were okay, and the beef in the salad was hard to bite. During the meal, many people who didn't make a reservation were also introduced into the formal hall. I don't know why only we were arranged to sit here. We kept sitting outside the toilet, listening to the flushing sound, eating not-so-delicious food, and I was in no mood to tip at all. The only good thing was the beer. In order not to waste, I packed up the ribs that I couldn't eat and planned to stew them at home. In short, this meal made me feel very bad today. In addition, it is best not to drink the tap water provided by the store. I drank two or three sips and went home with mild diarrhea...

By far, the best place I ate in Kraków/Wieliczka, no kidding. After visiting the salt mine we decided to have lunch in this restaurant. There was a small queue and we had to wait for around 20min. While we were headed to our table, I saw several people with pork ribs and my first thought was: this should be the best dish here, I'm going to try it! But I was wrong! The soup in the bread, the medallions (oh god the medallions), the beer and even the flavored water. Everything was so delicious! I've visited several restaurants during four days in Kraków but this one is by far the best one. The decoration is also great, everything looks like new and well designed. Only negative point was the toilet without a locker at the ground floor. I advise having the 300g pork ribs. I've tried the 500g but this is a heavy duty, it's really huge and it was for only 47PLN. In my opinion the price was great for what they offered. Next time in Kraków I'll definitely visit this place, hope they will keep the great quality,...
