I had the privilege of visiting Santa Isabel restaurant with a group from university, following a recommendation from our professor, who is a regular customer. And I completely understand why, the experience was absolutely unforgettable.
The restaurant is set in a traditional Ribatejo-style house, offering a rare sense of warmth and hospitality. It features a rustic and traditional décor with charming and unique touches. What caught my attention was the coins glued to the walls, a tradition brought in by regular customers, adding even more personality and character to the space. It’s an environment that blends authenticity, comfort, and history, where you can feel the care in every detail.
We were welcomed with contagious friendliness, the kind of service you don’t forget. The staff was incredibly warm, attentive, and friendly, creating a relaxed and familiar atmosphere that made us feel completely at ease from the very start.
And of course, I can’t forget to mention the food, which was simply wonderful. From the starters to the main course, everything was absolutely delicious.
It was, without a doubt, a fantastic experience that left all of us eager to return, and we definitely will, very soon.
Highly recommended to anyone visiting Abrantes. A true example of hospitality, great food, and...
Read moreI visited Restaurante Santa Isabel for lunch today (23/11/2017) as I was staying at Casa de Centro on my cycle tour through Portugal. I ordered their frango dish for 10.5 euro and a glass of red wine. The girl brought me taps of basket of bread, small piece of cheese on a boarrd, and a very small plate of jamon (thin slicked ham). As I'd not ordered these tapas and had never been charged in other cities in Portugal and Spain on my bike tour, no one said there was a charge for these tapas. The frnago dish turned out to be deep fried quail or small bird as the pieces were deep fried crisp, almost beyond eating. I ordered a second glass of wine while having dinner. When the bill came it was 29.40 euro which I was shocked knowing the frango dinner was 10.5. I looked at the bill and saw I was charged 8.5 euro for the small plate of jamon, 7.5 euro for the 2 glasses of wine and 3.4 euro for the cheese. I was gobsmacked and realized then that I'd been scammed because I was a foreigner. Looking around the room, I noticed other people sitting at other tables, had not been delivered jamon and cheese so it was obvious to me I was being taken advantage of not being a local. I would not recommend this restaurant nor would I ever return; a total and...
Read moreExcellent food and wine. We went with the house specialties suggested by the owner - octopus with arroz malandrinho (rice and beans) as well as porco preto grelhado com migas (grilled black pork with a side made of bread and alheiras). Both were delicious. Good wine selections from both Douro and Alentejo. Great regional desserts - try the palha de Abrantes for something very typical of this town. Service was great and the whole restaurant is very quaint, with a number of separate rooms for groups of 6 or more, as well as outdoor seating. I highly...
