Museu dos Salgados — Restaurant in Albufeira

Very disappointing - would NOT recommend - will definitely not return ! From first entering the establishment we found the member of staff we met was aloof and unwelcoming ……. Our request for glass of house wines - one red and one white - was met with disapproval. When my companion’s main dish of salmon arrived it was cold and raw in the centre. When pointed out no apology was made but was advised that chef would prepare a new one from scratch. So while I ate my main of steak my friend ate NOTHING. Finally her freshly cooked salmon re arrived ….. this time cooked, my main was finished !!! The lemon meringue dessert was absolutely dreadful - obviously stale and tasteless……. I think this Establishment is a classic case of “The Emperor has New Clothes” Go instead to “O Amigos” or the fabulous 5 Star “W Hotel” for a truly authentic Portuguese experience.

Surprisingly this restaurant is very nice inside from what you would expect looking from the outside. We had reserved our table in advance due to having our 6month old with us. After seeing the varied menu, we were very eager to receive our dishes. We picked a bottle of red which was well rounded, I had the grilled steak €25 and my partner had the cod fillet in a creamy basil sauce. My steak was over done when asked for medium-rare, watery like it had been frozen and flavourless. My partners cod fillet was dry and over cooked. We were really disappointed as we expected so much more when arriving and viewing the menu. Staff were very friendly and accommodating however they seemed a little rushed off their feet. We did not stick around...

So don’t be fooled by the outside appearance. Inside you will be welcomed by a helpful staff and dishes that are amazing. Rui is a very cultured chef with knowing a lot of languages but mostly for making dishes that you will remember. Of course a family atmosphere restaurant also means that it’s cozy and makes you feel at home. If the restaurant is full, just be patient with the short staff and your experience will be great. Museo dos Salgados gives you such an experience with taste of different spices. We have tried different restaurants and this restaurant is memorable. Thank you Rui & Staff Museo Dos Salgados....
