I recently visited the cafe, and I must say, it's a place that initially drew me in with its enticing pastries and numerous awards on display. The pastries looked not only beautiful but also incredibly well-crafted, showcasing a high level of expertise. However, my overall experience left me with mixed feelings.

While the pastries are undeniably visually appealing, I couldn't help but notice that they come at a premium price compared to many other pastry shops in Lisbon. Unfortunately, the taste didn't quite live up to the initial expectations set by their appearance. Most of the pastries I sampled were overly sweet, and some had an overly eggy flavor.

On a positive note, the espresso at the cafe was a highlight, offering a good balance of flavor and quality. Additionally, the staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming, which added a pleasant touch to the overall experience.

While the cafe's pastries may look like works of art and have garnered numerous awards, they might not be to everyone's taste, especially if you prefer pastries that are less sweet. However, if you're a coffee enthusiast and appreciate a warm, friendly atmosphere, it's worth stopping by for a...

Their desserts look incredible, though we found that they were a bit disappointing and didn’t taste nearly as good as they looked. And considering they have award winning pastries, I was expecting better. They were still good but they were also pricey. The staff seemed to work quickly to try to get through the line of people. It seems they go by number and you have to take a number when you enter the store and I don’t think that was very well noted, especially since it was not right close to the counter. They have washrooms which are nice and some seating. Inside the bakery has also been designed nicely. If you don’t speak Portuguese, ordering might be a bit of a guessing game. The lady who served me didn’t speak much English, and although she tried to describe what some items were, which was very nice of her, there were still some that ordered without knowing what was in it. If you go, I would recommend the nata. It is one of the best I’ve tried in my travels of Portugal (I always try a nata when it’s available). These ones...

Beautiful pastries, but far too sweet and overpriced. Pastelaria Alcôa definitely knows how to present their pastries. Everything in the display looks stunning, and the shop has a polished look and feel. It’s the kind of place that draws you in with its presentation and makes you want to try everything. Unfortunately, the taste didn’t live up to the look. We tried a few different pastries, and almost all of them were overwhelmingly sweet. It felt more like eating spoonfuls of sugar than anything balanced or nuanced. We couldn’t finish any of what we ordered. Prices were also much higher than other pastry shops in Lisbon which would be fine if the flavors matched the quality of the visuals. But in this case, it felt like you’re mostly paying for the aesthetics. Worth visiting if you’re curious, but keep expectations in check.
