O Paulo — Restaurant in Aljezur

A great place with really bad food and a truly poor service. :-( We looked forward to this dinner and went by the restaurant to make a reservation in person for a 7 PM diner to enjoy a sundowner…… Unfortunately, it started with a grumpy waiter, taking our orders…… The starters came without any cutlery, and no one bothered to refresh our wine for the entire period of the dinner, so it stayed in its bottle till we served ourselves…. :-( but the truly bad experience came with the main course where the scampi for my wife came so dry that they were barely eatable, my son’s Dorada (37€ on the bill!!!) was 2-3 days old and tasted like it, and my tuna Portuguese style…..well, it came straight from the freezer and was then over cooked and I left most of it and sent it back to the kitchen! 😫 The only gesture that we thought was good (hence the second star …otherwise it would have been AT BEST one….) is the manager who came to our table and offered a different dish for me, but it was really not in the mood 😕 Then she accepted to take the Tuna off the bill…..at least that! 😳 Overall really bad and disappointing experience and we saw many tables complaining…I guess the manager has a really tough...

Restaurant to avoid by couples

I visit this restaurant 5-7 times a year for the last 20 years, usual we are 4-6 persons. The best cataplana in the region. It’s the 3rd time in a row that we go as a couple (with reservation) and we are stuffed inside the restaurant while the covered outside part has beautiful ocean views. When you are 4-6 persons you get this beautiful location but as a couple not, the all lunch period 12 places remained free but the owner/management refuse to give these seats to couples. They have only one thing in their advantage, there is no equal quality restaurant in the region. I sincerely hope that this changes so the management can see that couples should be considered as equal clients to groups. One message, beautiful location - good food and good service but couples stay away, if you don’t want to feel discriminated.

Restaurante a evitar por casais Visito este restaurante 5-7 vezes por ano nos últimos 20 anos, normalmente somos 4-6 pessoas. A melhor cataplana da região. É a terceira vez consecutiva que vamos como casal (com reserva) e temos que ficar dentro do restaurante, enquanto a parte exterior coberta tem uma bela vista para o mar. Quando somos 4-6 pessoas temos esta bela vista, mas como casal não, os 12 lugares do período de almoço ficaram livres, mas o proprietário/gerência recusa-se a dar esses lugares a casais. Eles só têm uma coisa a seu favor, não há nenhum restaurante de qualidade igual na região. Espero sinceramente que isto mude para que a gerência veja que os casais devem ser considerados como clientes iguais aos grupos. Uma mensagem, local bonito - boa comida e bom serviço, mas os casais ficam longe, se não se quiserem sentir discriminados.

Es la 3ª vez consecutiva que vamos en pareja (con reserva) y estamos metidos dentro del restaurante mientras que la parte exterior cubierta tiene unas vistas preciosas al mar. Cuando eres 4-6 personas tienes esta hermosa ubicacion pero como pareja no, los 12 lugares de todo el periodo de almuerzo permanecieron libres pero el propietario/gerencia se niegan a dar estos asientos a las parejas. Sólo tienen una cosa en su ventaja, no hay restaurante de calidad igual en la región. Espero sinceramente que esto cambie para que la dirección vea que las parejas deben ser consideradas como clientes iguales a los grupos. Un mensaje, hermoso lugar - buena comida y buen servicio pero parejas manténganse alejadas, si no quieren sentirse discriminados.

Restaurant to avoid by couples Je visite ce restaurant 5 à 7 fois par an depuis 20 ans, nous sommes généralement 4 à 6 personnes. La meilleure cataplana de la région. C'est la 3ème fois de suite que nous y allons en couple (avec réservation) et nous sommes assis à l'intérieur du restaurant alors que la partie extérieure couverte a une vue magnifique sur l'océan. Quand vous êtes 4-6 personnes vous avez cette belle vue mais en tant que couple non, les 12 places pendant tout le déjeuner sont restées libres mais le propriétaire refuse de donner ces places aux couples. Ils n'ont qu'un seul avantage, il n'y a pas de restaurant de qualité égale dans la région. J'espère sincèrement que cela changera pour que la direction comprenne que les couples doivent être considérés comme des clients égaux aux groupes. Un seul message, un endroit magnifique, une bonne cuisine et un bon service, mais les couples ne s'y aventurent pas, si vous ne voulez pas vous sentir...

On our wedding anniversary, we wanted to eat amazing seafood in a beautiful restaurant. We couldn’t have picked a better place than the O’ Paulo. Although the restaurant was at about 60% when we arrived, we were greeted friendly, the crew took time to select the table we wanted and directly took the drinks order. Shortly after, the friendliest waiter we’ve ever met, walked us through the menu options and let us take time to check and decide. Because of an allergy to garlic, the main course had to be changed and was then prepared in a variant. This happened without any stress and was also taken care of by the kitchen crew, who came out to double check ingredients. Of course it’s not ideal to have an allergy like this in a seafood restaurant, but everything was done perfectly! Altogether, the friendly and courteous service, the amazing quality of the food and the fair prices make this a great place! And the view! Oh the view is just awesome, especially when sitting outside. Wind is okay, although I imagine it could be stronger on other days. So this place is highly recommended! If you love seafood - go here! We’ll be back...
