Pedestre 142 — Restaurant in Arouca

It's impossible to rate Pedestre without comparing it with the other restaurants around. It clearly aims for a different, more upscale experience with it's modern looks in a very traditional region. The service is good, if a little cold (although this is the better sin, much better than the other way around). The dish was good, it's very hard to present good Polvo à Lagareiro, so that deserves to be mentioned. What brings this experience down is the price which is definitely too high for what's presented. And this is where the comparison factor comes in. In a region where you expect to eat well and for cheap, ask for around 30+ euros per person needs to provide more. Unbelievable experience! The decoration is efficient, but sophisticated. I just loved the upholstered booth seating. The staff was extremely pleasant and caring. We asked if the kitchen would be open before making a late reservation - to our greatest amusement, it was - obviously management and staff do the extra mile to please their guests.

The wine selection is very good.

And of course the food was top notch. The highlight? As a true lover of Abade De Priscos pudding I can say that it is the best I have ever savoured.

Such a shame to have a good starter and a great main course be completely ruined by a the desserts. We ordered a lime pie and a passion fruit pie to share, the passion fruit one had so much gelatine it was basically rubber, but at least it had no green mould spots. The lime pie, on the other hand, had not just green lime shavings but actual green mould spots, which makes one wonder about the state of their fridge.
