Wow! I think I just found the best place in Aveiro to eat home style food at super inexpensive prices and not too far off the tourist path. Mr Batista will take your order and cook the food. I had Rojes which was the most amazing pork dish with boiled potatoes and green beans. 8.50 Euros for a huge portion. I'm a really big guy and could hardly finish it. My wife had grilled Robalo fish. She was so happy and it was very fresh. We did the appetizer of bread, cheese, olives and prosciutto which you should not skip for 5.80 Euros. Wife's fish dinner was 11 Euros. A large draft beer was $2.90. Great prices and portions and quality food. This is not a fancy place at all. A true family place where the locals eat. Mr Baptista doesn't speak anything but Portuguese however hands feet and Google Translate will get you a meal to write home about. He's a kind man and a great cook. I could eat here every day. He only has one menu for the whole restaurant but the back three pages have a repeat in English, French, and Spanish well translated. This was very helpful. Also he has about 20 dishes on the menu but only about half of them were actually available. He'll tell you right away which ones he does not have that day. The most popular dishes should all be...

If you do not speak English, it would be best to have somebody that can translate for you as He does not speak English, but his son does speak English, and was incredibly accommodating and courteous. the food was truly delicious. Well worth the walk up and off the...
Read moreA great value, "typical" Portuguese restaurant right by the train station. I had chicken with rice and beans, my wife, salmon with green beans; we shared a half litre of house red wine, and I had a coffee. Our bill: €18.
The server spoke better English than most of the grade 10's I've met (and I taught high school English in Canada for 32 years, so I know of what I speak). He was delightful, helpful and chatty. You're not going to get a palatial restaurant and views of the ocean, but you will get very good food at a...
