I came into this restaurant to have lunch after a day of tough hikes in the inland of Madeira. I was alone, and after asking, a waitress hastily gave me the worst table in the outside terrace among the available ones. But no big deal so far. While other clients were being served and while hearing the staff chatting all along inside the bar without being too busy, I was left waiting sit down for about 25 minutes without being given any cutlery, placemat or glass of water. Nobody came to take my order. It was about 1 pm and I was in the first table one can see when exiting in the terrace. As soon as I stood up to go away in disappointment, a waitress magically noticed me asking if my order was taken, but I decided to go anyway.
Now, there are many possibilities: this restaurant is not accepting solo travelers or the waitresses know that solo traveler = less expected tip; this restaurant does not like people in trekking suits not in the cleanest conditions; this restaurant does not like visitors from abroad... or I don't know.
Moral of the story I had to go in one of the restaurants down the street in 5 minutes, where I was treated with total courtesy and...
Read moreWe had a nice dinner at La Perla. The atmosphere was very strange, we entered to locals shouting and being quite loud but took a seat outside where we were the only table. The views from the restaurant are beautiful, you can see right across the valley. The staff are friendly and attentive. The food is nice but could potentially be better. There are not very many vegetarian options so I had the cheese salad (which was a great sized portion with lots of cheese) and a side of chips. My partner requested the chicken skewer, but the waitress told him to have the dish of the day (grilled chicken) instead. He didn’t want to argue so accepted the recommendation but unfortunately it seemed as though the chicken had been cooked the day before and sat on a grill drying out the whole time! Would definitely persist on having the chicken skewer if we went again. Overall we had a nice enough experience here but don’t think we...
Read morethe first place we ate in Madeira and after having eaten similar dishes at many other places in Porto Moniz and Funchal, I can confidently say that this place has the best picado in all of Madeira, not the mention the value for money is unmatched.
lunch with an amazing view over nun’s valley. the portions are all very generous and worth every cent!
we spent total €50-60 for 4 adults and were all left full and satisfied!
there is quite limited parking outside of the restaurant, but you can park along the street opposite as we did.
i would definitely recommend stopping by at this place, i would say it is worth going out of your way to drive here simply to enjoy delicious food with a spectacular view. it was also here i learnt that poncha is an alcoholic drink (and very strong), for €3, i was expecting a...
