Wow wow and triple wow.
If you get the chance please try this place, a short walk from the main area (2 minutes at the most)
We were lucky enought to come across it as it is the first bar after the hike down. Amazingly helpful and friendly owners. I use the word AMAZING because they truely are. €2.80 beer and a free snack. They then helped us to make sure we were right about the 81 bus back and also said that we could sit for free and watch out for the bus from the table. We hadn't planned on getting the bus back from this stop but after a walk around the main area decided to head back there and wait for it. True to the word they were happy for us to sit out but its something I would never dream of doing for free so had another but refused the free snack. Then they gave us fried chestnuts which were beautiful. Then we tried a bit of the honey and just to add this wasn't a sales thing to try and sell us some, it was purely for the pasion they had for this local honey. It was so good we brought 2 jars.
If you on a excursion and only have a limited time to look around then I highly recommend a quick for a cold drink and the view from the roof terrace. 100% you will fall in love with the owners.
Thank you so much if you read this you made our visit to the area something so special. Good luck with the business and i really hope we get time to visit...
Read moreA truly spectacular restaurant, we had gone there based on the 5 star reviews, and we certainly were not disappointed!
We were greeted by Phillipe and his wife who run the place, who from start to finish were amazing and kind; Phillipe had made us one of the best Chicken club sandwich and Chicken Baguette we had ever had, and his partner was very attentive to us and took care of us throughout. Phillipe had then presented us with a honeycomb, which genuinely tasted fantastic, and explained the history behind his Bee farm, which had been passed down by his Grandfather.
Before we had left, they had kindly given us jars of honey to take home, which we have shared with our families who have all commented that it was delicious!
It was very clear that both husband and wife deeply care about the food they make and the people that come there, they will speak to you as if you were family/old friends, and we had never experienced such delightful people before and would certainly come here again.
If you are in Madeira, regardless of where you are on the island, get in a car and drive to this place, if not for the views, then most certainly for these two fantastic individuals and their food!
Hope to see you both again...
Read moreWhile visiting the mountains north of Funchal, we happened upon this quite unique eatery and so decided to have an impromptu lunch
The menu was “straight-up”, meticulously prepared and delivered in a most friendly and engaging way.
The husband and wife team are delightful. We were warmly greeted by both of them. She at the front and he in the open, bistro styled kitchen.
The Chef owner, Pedro, genuinely enjoyed offering up both cooking insights and some samples of local delights (such as the opportunity to taste some very local raw honey - as per the picture).
We had the fish soup and amazing soda bread (full of seeds, nuts and other taste sensations).
The soup contained generous portions of shrimp and fish.
His training and apprenticeship with some leading hotel chefs shinned through.
We so much enjoyed our experience and our meal, we returned after a short hike to grab coffees and sweets. We then decided to take home a number of Niçoise salads.
We were not / not disappointed.
Definitely drop-in while in that area, or frankly make Naibers the point of...
