Terrible manager and staff. After 10+ minutes with them trying to figure out a simple transaction switching ice creams because they didn’t have the one I had already ordered and paid for (they couldn’t figure out the difference between the 1.40 ice cream ordered that they didn’t have and the 2.20 ice cream I had substituted because of it, out of a 20 euro bill), the cashier threw the change on the ground behind me, claiming that I did the same, even though all I’ve done is to slide the wrong change over their bar counter. As if this was my problem that they had to make a change!! This is how they treat their costumers after they’ve spent 1000+ EUR at their restaurant for the past 6 months. Manager also wanted nothing to do with my feedback for staff who has been there a long time with him. The staff even lied to his boss! Good for them that they don’t have to rely on any repeat costumers who find this culture disgusting. They claim to have tried to find a solution, the solution being accusing me of yelling and not having paid for anything in the first place. Who doesn’t feel threatened when 3 men and 1 woman all speaking the same language are all ganging up on you all at once? And when a cashier throws their change at you?? Speaking of out of control… they can speak...

Today I was refused the service because I wanted to have a coffee in a half-empty restaurant.

I have been to this place before, a few times with friends when we ordered main dishes, juices, wine, and a few times for a coffee or a soft drink. When I was having just a coffee Id make sure to leave around 50 eu cent tip.

Today I wanted to sit down for 15-20 min, have a coffee and go on with my walk, but I was told by two waiters I can be accepted at the restaurant only IF I ORDER FOOD. Half of the terrace was empty, more than 8 tables.

Clearly Im not coming back again nor bringing my friends here for lunch or dinner.

Smart restaurant managers want to have more guests on the terrace for the business to look busy and in demand. Not in case with La Plage.

I also realised that yesterday I received an excellent service at Spot by Fortaleza, a restaurant at a 5-star hotel. Even though my friend and I only ordered coffee and dessert. Needless to say we will return to Spot restaurant again and again. I guess La Plage thinks they are better than a 5-star hotel&restaurant and can mistreat and discriminate...

I heard the food is good here. But didn’t got the chance to try the food at this place!

Because the waiter turned out to be a very unpleasant person. My daughter and I clearly didn’t impress him — he somehow decided we wouldn’t spend much money.

Right at the entrance, he asked if we were planning to have lunch. I said, “My daughter wants to eat something, like a sandwich or burger, and I want coffee with something.” I was thinking of a salad or something light.

He told us to leave the restaurant and go to the cafeteria next door 😵‍💫 I asked why I wasn’t allowed to have coffee during lunch — and he started trying to kick us out. I asked why there were people at tables with coffee — he started yelling in Portuguese that coffee is only served here at 10 AM. And that we should come at 10.

After that, I completely lost any desire to eat, drink coffee, or ever enter a place where such greedy and arrogant people work.

It’s a shame that this “waiter” works with tourists and influences how they see Portuguese people and...

I’ve had repeat, incredible moments at La Plage over the past few months — and honestly, I think I delayed writing about it just to keep it a secret a little longer. The setting is heavenly — perched above the beach, perfect for lazy afternoons watching surfers, sunsets, and barefoot wanderers below. The decor? Total bohemian daydream. Driftwood, natural textures, and that salty, sun-kissed breeze that makes you stay longer than planned. Anna and Raquel are always gracious hosts. The food is tasty, the drinks delicious, and the service quietly on point. A gorgeous walk along the promenade gets you there, with ample parking along the beach strip. Devastated they’re closing for winter… I’ll be counting the days ‘til summer.

My dining experience at La Plage left much to be desired. The octopus carpaccio was disappointingly dry, lacking the succulence expected from such a dish. The coconut rice, though described as an accompaniment, was overwhelmed by an excessive amount of desiccated coconut, rendering it excessively sweet and almost inedible. The hamburger, a classic favorite, arrived lukewarm and overcooked, which greatly detracted from its appeal. While the ambiance and location of La Plage were picturesque, the quality of the food was a letdown, leaving me with an unsatisfied palate and a longing for a more enjoyable culinary experience.

Best Sangria ever! We stopped there for a quick coffee... stayed there for the great beach views... then we tried the white sangria... It was so so good then we ordered a jog of the red sangria which was delicious too. Lots of fruit, great flavours and a little taste of fruity liqueur. This is the best spot on Carcavelos beach. A must try! The French owner is very friendly and welcoming. All staff are also very friendly. The food also looks great but we didn't try it as we were still full from the brunch we had beforehand.
