Portugal never disappointed me and my experience I had today at Sem Espinhas strengthen more my beliefs regarding this country and its people. The location is beautiful, being on the beach you can enjoy a nice view. Even the sound level of the music was perfect so that you can enjoy your food/drinks and have a nice conversation with your friends/family without raising your voice. We had exceptional service from our waiter and his colleagues. Prompt, friendly and always there whenever you need something. Now lets talk about food. We had some appetizers, conquilhas, linguado, arroz lingueira and (of course) desserts. Everything was tasty and rich in flavors, like a rainbow in your mouth. With the fish (linguado) we had white wine that brightened the flavor. Even if I didn't had cataplana this time, the arroz lingueira proved to be a good substitute. The dessert was a must so we picked the floresta negra and morgado and they were a delight. Overall our experience here was amazing, we really enjoyed it and we will come back whenever we'll have the chance. Definitely I recommend this...
Read moreSem Espinhas is an unexpected gem under the disguise of a beach restaurant. We stumbled upon it, vaguely suspicious and expecting the overrated, overpriced, feet in the sand tourists trap! To the contrary, we found a genuinely warm welcome in a clean, airy set up with an uninterrupted sea view. Our waiter, Fernando, turned out to be passionate with wines, and showed us around the extensive wine cellars. The choice of rare Portuguese vintages and French and international top of the range was impressive and his generosity in explaining and sharing experiences was simply fantastic! The food was not exceptional but nevertheless very good and nicely presented. A lot of small dishes in tapas format, with very fresh fish and seafood. The kitchen diligently prepared a vegetarian risotto for one and the service was prompt. I wouldn't like to forget the delicious local desserts suggested by Fernando and the sampling of local liqueurs. An excellent experience that I...
Read moreIt is very hard for me to rate such a nice setting just 3 stars….so please allow me to explain. Location is great, food is very good, staff is friendly. Normally I would say definitely a 5 star rating. However, we were enjoying a couvert when a starter arrived (felt a bit strange as we were just there for a bit). My wife was still enjoying her gazpacho when the waiter arrived to take the plate. We explained she wasn’t done yet and the waiter replied the next dish was ready and waited at our table for her to finish the dish. We said we wanted some more time when the next course arrived and I got somewhat upset and explained my wife hadn’t even finished the starter….in the end they kind of resolved it by taking the dishes back and allowing us to enjoy rather than rush our meal. I have talked to the manager on site to explain what happened and hope things will improve. We will probably give it...
