A Cadeia in Estremoz proved to be a truly remarkable dining experience. Located within a former prison, the restaurant's unique atmosphere adds a touch of charm to the overall dining experience.
I was warmly welcomed by the attentive staff. The interior of A Cadeia seamlessly blends the historical elements of the building with modern decor, creating a cozy and inviting ambiance.
The menu at A Cadeia showcases an array of traditional Portuguese dishes, each prepared with care and creativity. The selection caters to various palates, ensuring that there is something for everyone. The use of locally sourced ingredients was evident in the vibrant flavors and impeccable presentation of each dish.
To begin my culinary journey, I opted for the "Queijo de Cabra Gratinado" (gratinated goat cheese) with honey and nuts. The combination of creamy cheese, the sweetness of the honey, and the crunch of the nuts was a delightful start to the meal. The flavors harmonized beautifully, leaving me excited for what was to come.
For the main course, I decided to try the slow-cooked lamb in the oven, a specialty of the house. The lamb was tender, succulent, and incredibly flavorful. The meat practically melted in my mouth, and the aroma was simply irresistible. The dish was accompanied by a medley of roasted vegetables and creamy mashed potatoes, which complemented the lamb perfectly. It was a true culinary masterpiece that showcased the skill and expertise of the kitchen.
The service at A Cadeia was impeccable, with the staff demonstrating knowledge about the menu and providing recommendations when needed. Their attentiveness and friendly nature enhanced the overall dining experience, making me feel well taken care of throughout the meal.
Overall, A Cadeia in Estremoz offers a remarkable dining experience that combines exquisite flavors, attentive service, and a unique ambiance. Whether you're a local or a visitor to the area, I highly recommend visiting A Cadeia to embark on a culinary journey that will leave you...
Read moreI am a Tourist travelling around Portugal with my Portuguese girlfriend and normally I like leaving positive reviews and give the restaurant the benefit of the doubt. Unfortunately this is different. I watched the host yell at a different customer and make racial comments against them (more specifically: oh you must be Brazilians) over a meal dispute (they were Portuguese and very composed not that it matters). Unprofessional and unforgivable. It made me and my girlfriend was extremely uncomfortable. There was only one server (who was great, by the way) to handle a busy restaurant at lunchtime on a weekend. This same aggressive host also took our order and forgot our drink order. There were some positives but they are completely overshadowed by the unprofessionalism by the host and by what I have read in these earlier reviews of this restaurant, this is not the first time. I convinced the host of the place where we are staying to take this restaurant off of their preferred dining list. This could easily be the nicest place to eat in Estremoz if there were changes made to the front...
Read moreWe came in late for lunch from our long drive and every restaurant was closing at 3. We trekked to the castle grumpy and tired and were given a table at this wonderful restaurant. They took care of our every need. We needed more olives, fine crusty bread, water and their fine lical red wine. They kept delivering. Then the food came and we realized we were experiencing fine dining. What a treat! The lamb was delicious, tortellini had many layers of flavor, and the black pork is a "must". There were six of us and everyone passed around their dish. We were all smiles and laughter afterwards. The owner is a quirky delightful man with a big belly who is an amazing host. He finishes the meal with a lovely penny royal electric yellow liqueur, his mother's recipe. The shy chef periodically would pop out and then duck in, not giving us a chance to give her the proper accolades she deserved. Make sure you thank her personally for one of the best eating experiences you'll have in this picturesque little village. Then go take...
