Sítio dos Presuntos — Restaurant in Faro

I’m from Algarve but I want to do this review in English because my fellow locals already know that this place is golden, authentic and a true gem. This comment is for the foreign customers who might be put down by the 3, 4 stars or bellow that. If you are looking for a fancy restaurant where you need to “leave a kidney” to eat food visually stunning to put on your Instagram, this is not the place for you. But you’re looking for a true, humble, honest food served by honest authentic algarvios, then this is the place for you. Flavor beats looks anytime of the day. I’ve been coming here for many years and there’s no place to eat better suckling pig (leitão) in ALL of Algarve. But not just suckling pig is golden here. Just about everything here is good and has an excellent value for money. The soup of the day (often feijão com repolho), rice pudding, the fruit salad and even the cheesecake are to die for. In an area that is becoming a tourist trap for most foreigners visiting the Algarve, this place remains faithful to its origins, with fair prices and the proof is that everyday it’s packed with locals. Do yourself a favor a come to “sitio dos presuntos” for a true experience and order some suckling pig (leitão) or Xarém. Don’t mind the snobs who leave 3 stars or below just because they don’t know how to appreciate a place like this or had a bad experience for some reason. Excellent food close to the airport. This is not a tourist trap. The restaurant is busy at lunchtime and in the evening. At lunch, mainly workers from the airport, the rent a car etc. In the evening, local families and friends. To start with, I recommend the thinly sliced Presunto, the Portuguese version of Jamon, very good and less well known. Check out the seafood display, great options there, especially with on tap vinho verde. Otherwise go to the menu where you will find excellent options of typical Portuguese food. Wir waren 2 Wochen in Spanien, um dort Urlaub zu machen. Von Faro aus sind wir geflogen, daher sind wir hier in der Nähe in einem Hostel untergekommen und wollten kurz etwas essen.

Was wir Fünf Freunde dort erlebt haben lässt sich kaum in Worte fassen, trotzdem versuche ich es:

Wir bestellten Venusmuscheln, Fleisch, Dorade, Tintenfisch und Thunfisch. Unfassbar! Wir konnten uns nicht entscheiden, welches Gericht besser war. Eine kulinarische Geschmacksexplosion jagte die nächste! Abgerundet wurde dieses vollmundige Erlebnis von Frizzante Wein vom Haus und anschließend einem ebenfalls sehr geschmackvollen Wechsel zum Rotwein des Hauses.

Da die Hauptspeise uns schon komplett von den Socken haute, bestellten wir noch 4 verschiedene Desserts: Süßkartoffeltarte und drei weitere sehr sehr leckere Amuse-gueules. Auch hier konnten wir nicht begreifen, wie ein kleines, familiäres Restaurant mit solch einem erfüllendem Gesxhmackserlebnis aufwarten konnte.

Wie gesagt, es scheint zwar übertrieben solche Worte zu finden, doch mit meinen nicht gerade zahlreichen weiteren Bewertungen war es mir ein Herzenswunsch, diesem Restaurant mitzuteilen, dass es mich mindestens zur Top 3 meiner bisherigen Gaunenschmäuse des Lebens geführt hat. Bilder gibt es leider keine, dafür waren wir zu sehr mit Essen beschäftigt.

Ich höre jetzt auf, genieße meinen Absacker und wünsche dem netten Personal nur das Beste der Welt.
