Zarcos - Restaurant & Steakhouse — Restaurant in Funchal

The Zarcos experience is mediocre (I’d give 2.5 stars rather than 3 if I could), and while the menu looks great I recommend looking elsewhere if you’re in the mood for espetadas. My wife and I tried the Espetada de Vaca and the Espetada do Filete – both had more fat/gristle than was enjoyable, came out very underdone despite requesting they be cooked medium. Most pieces came out deep-purple and cool in the center, not even the red of medium-rare. To Zarcos’s credit, food came out very quickly once ordered (because they weren’t cooking the meat long enough…), and servings are a good size. Aside from food delivery, service definitely left something to be desired. Our waiter had very little patience with us despite the restaurant not being busy, and our doing our best to speak Portuguese when possible. We asked about wine, and rather than being offered a wine list (which they definitely had) the waiter just asked if wanted red or white and then left to bring out a relatively generic wine (one that we recognized from having tried it elsewhere). We were largely ignored once the food came out, which was a problem when we wanted to order more drinks. I would like to share my recent experience at Zarco's in the hope that it will help improve customer service.

I visited the restaurant today and was quite disappointed with the service. It took an excessive amount of time to be attended to. While we were waiting, we noticed that one of the staff members was outside picking leaves from the plants and did not make any effort to attend to us or inform his colleagues that there were customers waiting.

Even though it was clear that we were seen inside the restaurant, none of the staff came to assist us. This demonstrated a lack of consideration for the customers, which is crucial for any establishment that values good service. After waiting for an unreasonable amount of time, I got up from the table and left without ordering anything.

I understand that unforeseen circumstances can happen, but the situation could have been avoided with a bit more attention and organization from the team. I sincerely hope that these aspects can be reviewed to provide a better experience for...

WOW. This place was recommended to me by a friend who is from the area and it exceeded expectations. The food is INCREDIBLE, amazing bolo do caco, the milho fritos also. The espetada was incredible, the meat was cooked perfectly and was so tender. Great selection of wines and the staff, especially Gilberto, were all incredibly friendly. The price was amazing value too. If I ever come back to Funchal, I will be visiting this restaurant. Thank you to the staff for such an amazing experience!! Amazing view too!!

Had to edit this review because we came back because the food and service was so good. For me when the owners care so much it means a lot. These are some of the most passionate and friendly staff I’ve ever met, it is obvious through the food, drinks and service. I wish I lived here to be able to come regularly
